You're listening to the Cruise Tips TV, Unplugged Podcast.
Today's episode is for the Cruise Traveler who loves to shop for their cruise.
You love the planning process, you love the packing list, and you love to shop.
Let's talk about it.
Welcome to Cruise Tips TV, Unplugged.
I'm your host, Sherry, and we invite you to join our Cruise Loving Family as we travel
world, creating cruise videos and vlogs.
In this podcast, we talk tips, tactics, and strategies to help you make every cruise
your dream cruise.
Alright, we're shooting from the hip today, but I gotta tell you, if you love shopping
and you love cruising, this episode is for you.
It's a good time right now.
Why is it a good time?
Because tomorrow.
Tomorrow.
July 11th.
And the day after that, July 12th are Amazon Prime Days.
Yeah, I mean, this is like, you know, it's like the Black Friday of July.
It is.
It's very exciting.
It is, and if you're smart, you can get some really good deals.
You may not know what's gonna go on deal.
No, you definitely don't.
You don't know it.
It's all like this.
What should I put in my wish list?
Do I add everything to my cart and just watch it?
Like, what do I do?
And that's what we've done.
You and me both.
We have full.
You've put everything in the cart and you watch the price and you think, what do I want
to buy right now?
Is it a vacuum cleaner?
Is it a new set of packing cubes?
Is it Apple AirPods?
I don't know, but it's all in the wish list.
Well, let's, let's frame this up, okay, because we've established a fact that you love
shopping.
You love cruising.
Let's do a hypothetical here and say, you're going on a cruise soon, right?
And you want to take advantage of Prime Day.
What would you be looking for?
What would I be looking for?
What would you be looking for?
Well, let's see, let's say you're just to be helpful.
Let's say you're a new cruiser.
Okay.
Okay.
So with that mindset, what do you want to be looking for tomorrow on Prime Day?
The first thing that came to my mind was luggage.
Luggages are always a good start.
Yeah.
Suitcases, whether it be a hard side, a, you know, a duffel, a carry-on size rolling suitcase,
a big old suitcase, whatever it is.
I'm probably going to start with luggage.
I need to put all my stuff in something, right?
What about packing cubes?
Well, you stole my thunder.
Of course.
Yeah.
I'm a packing cube fan.
I think you love them or hate them.
You know, I think some people think packing cubes are unnecessary and then maybe they take
up extra space.
But for me, it's like, ah, no, I love them because I can pre-pack into them.
I can separate out my items in the suitcase by human being.
So I have one color of packing cube set.
You have another color.
Junior has another color.
It's all about the packing cube.
You know, I think anyone who doesn't like packing cubes is not using them correctly.
Matt, real Caribbean blog.
I mean, they, they just make the packing experience so much better.
I know.
They really do.
That's just me.
But what else?
What else?
You're looking for packing stuff.
Yeah.
So I got my luggage, got my packing cubes.
What am I going to put in them?
Well, I think you need basics like toiletries, right?
So maybe you're not going to buy shampoo and toothbrushes on Amazon necessarily.
But maybe I'll be looking for like a toiletry bag of some sort, maybe.
What if you're looking for containers for those toiletries, like, like, little travel
size shampoo containers, yes.
Pill containers.
So like you fill your, you have like some kind of a travel container that you put your
own shampoo in, your own pill case, all that, yeah, yeah, you can find, those are all
definitely on Amazon.
Maybe some will go on deal.
You can find a lot of travel specific toiletries too.
If you enter the right search words, like you can find, you know, little small razors
and things like that.
And I think, I think that would be a safe search for prime day.
I think you could find stuff like that in prime.
So yes, go to Amazon, folks, and we want you want you to type in as little small razors.
No, I'm just kidding.
Come on now.
Hey, look, you mess with me every week.
I'm messing with you back.
And that's fine.
I can take it.
I can take it.
But I don't know what they call that stuff.
Because it's typically for women in, you know, I'm not going to buy a little small
razors.
No, but I have seen small razors for women for like shaving their legs, a little travel
size razors.
Yeah, they do.
And those are great.
I'm just messing with you because I can, right?
And let's be honest, I mean, most of us ladies, do we pack most of the toiletries for our
family?
Yeah, probably, right?
Fair enough.
I mean, you don't have to worry about it.
You, I pack your toothbrush, I pack your razor, your shaving cream, and your, and what is
it?
Okay, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, and razor.
And that's your, those are your toiletries and deodorant.
That's all you need.
Your guy.
Right?
That's right.
Hello.
Are you a guy?
Yeah.
I was, I was really trying to figure out if I really need deodorant.
I mean, do I need that?
You tell me.
Have you tried to go a day without deodorant lately?
Save the space.
It'll be fine.
It'll be fine.
Okay.
So something to put the toiletries in, the actual toiletries, and they're actually there
are good toiletries, sort of accessories on Amazon too.
You can find things like, you can find things like shampoo kits.
Like there's this keratin shampoo travel kit that I absolutely love.
It's like a two pack of really high quality keratin shampoo and conditioner and it comes
in under 3.4 ounces, which is great for TSA.
Also, you, didn't you buy like some kind of toiletry, ready-made toiletry kit or find
a ready-made toiletry kit?
Yeah, they're out there.
Yeah.
Like if you search like toiletry kit, there are, if you really want to make it easy on
yourself, you can find something that has like, it's kind of a pack-and-go.
Yeah.
And so you buy a kit and they, I think they're as small as like five or six and all the way
up to like 12 items.
I don't see.
Yeah.
And they have things like, you know, razors and shaving cream and tooth paste and floss and,
oh, that's a lot of stuff.
Yeah.
There's a bunch of shampoo, I think, even.
And I'm not sure because there's so many of them, there's different.
And you could, you can definitely, I'm thinking you can definitely find stuff like that on
Prime Day.
So, okay, so what else?
So, no, you're a tech guy.
So when you're thinking of like the tech basics, what would you think a new cruiser would
want to pack?
You're definitely going to want to look for charging bricks.
Yes.
Charging bricks are like chargers of some sort.
And I can almost guarantee you're going to find something like that on deal on Prime
Day.
Okay.
USB hubs.
That's another thing.
Okay.
And I'm not as positive about finding something like that on Prime Day.
But I say the odds are good.
And then some kind of non surge, you know, extension.
Yeah.
Like a power strip.
Power strip.
Non surge power strip.
Cruise approved, non surge.
Look for those words, right?
But also use caution because still some cruise lines are prohibiting them.
Yeah.
I hate seeing that.
But we do have to see that.
That's a good time.
Yeah.
They're being kind of finicky on some lines.
What else is in your tech bag?
Are you like, would you tell people maybe look for GoPro's cameras on Prime Day?
I don't think you're going to see GoPro.
I do know.
I do know that Insta360 is definitely running Prime Day specials.
They are a starter them.
And they're going to carry through at least the next two or three days.
Really?
So if you're into Insta360 products, that would be their full on 360 cameras and their
action cameras, basically almost everything that Insta360 makes is going on sale right
now.
Wow.
Really?
Yeah.
That would be good.
That's awesome.
That's awesome.
If you're into that.
Also, I think Sony's running a promo.
I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with Prime.
But it would be a good time to check out Sony's products.
So they're vlogging cameras, some of their older, full frame cameras as well.
What about things like, for the airplane, like maybe you're looking at something like
some earphones or, you know, some noise canceling earbuds or something?
Do you think there's anything that's going to be on deal like that for like your flight
to your cruise?
Almost guaranteed that you're going to find something.
You may get lucky and see Apple products on sale.
They've got great stuff.
Maybe some of the Bose stuff, maybe Beats.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
In the past, I think Apple products have gone on deal for some of these special occasions.
So we'll watch for those.
Definitely a good time to look for that.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Okay.
So, oh my goodness.
What about a few state room essentials?
Let's talk about that.
What about things like, maybe a hamper, like a pop-up hamper?
Who knows if that'll be on deal for prime days.
But I think that'd be a good thing.
If your newer cruiser and you're really trying to make a difference in your state room,
getting a super small pop-up hamper to put in your closet can really make you feel like
a lot more, just more tidy, you know, you can either use a hamper or some people, just
like unzip their suitcase and they put it under the bed.
And then they leave it unzipped and they put their dirty laundry in it throughout the week.
That's another way of doing it.
I guess that makes your packing home really easy.
Like, maybe you don't even fold the laundry, you just leave it in there and zip it.
You would never, you would never do something like that in a million years.
No.
I can't live like that.
I can't live like that.
I know.
Okay, so we talked about the packing sort of process with like suitcases and things.
We talked about toiletries.
What about like cruise fashion?
I would imagine there's probably going to be some amazing deals on clothing.
Yeah, it's a good time.
Whether you're going to Alaska and looking for outerwear,
maybe shoes, or you are going on a Caribbean cruise and you're looking for sun dresses,
or a gentleman and you're looking for like hybrid shorts.
I would imagine those would be good things you could search for.
Yeah.
So pretty exciting stuff.
There's a lot of deals to be had on Prime Day.
So what do you think, Mr. Hussabee?
What do you like better when it comes to Amazon shopping?
Do you like this July Prime Day tradition?
Or do you like Black Friday and Cyber Monday better?
I'm going to go with Prime because it comes at a time when basically very few people are
having sales.
So Black Friday everyone is having some kind of sale.
So I like this better.
Really?
Well, I mean, I guess what I'm saying is I like both.
But this is good because it's all by itself.
You know what's funny?
You said it's all by itself, but then it's kind of everybody's piggy backing on it.
In fact, in my email, just like an hour ago, Princess Cruises released basically like a
Prime Day deal, which is really crazy.
I'm going to pull it up and tell you guys about this Princess deal.
Where is it, Mr. Cruises?
I think I forwarded you the press release.
But they're having some kind of like a, oh, yeah, here it is.
Princess Cruises launches a Prime offer for 2024 saleings.
They're calling it the score for 24 sale and they said it will be the lowest deals for
next year.
And they're calling it basically their Prime offer.
Interesting.
Isn't that cool?
And you know, I got an email this morning from Lowe's or Home Depot.
One of the two of them is doing Prime deals.
So everybody's like piggy backing on Prime Day, but Princess's deal actually looks pretty
good here.
Listen to this, you guys.
Third and fourth guests sale free on select voyages.
And there's fairs as low as 399 per person for a seven day Western Caribbean voyage.
That's really cool.
So these are for 2024 and it looks like, what else do they say?
Not a whole lot.
I think the best thing you could do is go to Princess.com and click on their promotions tab on their
page and just kind of look it up and see what the deals are like or better yet, contact
your travel agent and see what they have to say about that.
But yeah, Prime Day is a big deal.
Let's talk about more things.
Okay.
Did you could look for it?
Okay.
If you're going to the Caribbean or Caribbean, either one bathing suits, there's a lot of
swimwear on Amazon.
And I bet you there'll be a ton of it on sale tomorrow, today, whenever one wakes up tomorrow,
it'll be today.
When you guys listen to this, if you're listening to it on release dates, like this is Prime
Day, Tuesday and Wednesday, get on it, get up on in there.
So hopefully we can give you some ideas of maybe things that you weren't thinking
about.
And you might think, oh, yeah, I do need that for my next trip.
Like it might be, it might be a good time for high-end sunglasses.
Ooh.
Rayban.
A Maui Jam.
Oakley.
Maybe.
Love me some Maui jams.
But if you do find a good deal, you got to go for it.
Got to go for it.
Maybe let us know about it.
Maybe you see a good deal.
Maybe shoot me a DM on Instagram or Facebook.
And if I can, if I'm able to keep up tomorrow, I will reshare it out to our community.
Binoculars.
Ooh, Alaska.
Well, then let's see you said binoculars.
Why don't we talk about some Alaska items you might find on Prime Day?
Go.
Binoculars.
Just kidding.
Oh, no.
No.
No.
Outer wear.
Like for example, Columbia, North Face, and Amazon basics all make excellent jackets
for men and women.
Whether you're looking for a rain layer or a packable puffy, those three brands could
be easily searched on Amazon and you could check those out.
Waterproof pants.
Oh, go ahead.
I've had great experience with the Amazon basic stuff.
So if you're listening to this and you're thinking, oh, well, that's just a generic type
and I want the name brand stuff, give it a try.
At least once because I don't think I've ever had an Amazon basics item that I've had
to send back.
Yeah.
It seems like really good quality.
I bought pants, I bought shirts, you've had really good luck with it.
Oh, my goodness.
We have so many things.
Household supplies.
A lot.
A lot.
The only thing I've ever had an issue with is I bought a puffer jacket that was really
tied in the hips and I couldn't, it doesn't even fit me and it's like a medium which
is size up for me.
So that was a bit disappointing.
I bought an Amazon basics puffer jacket and it was great.
That's perfect.
You know what's amazing is your, the fleece lined Sherpa hoodie that you have from Amazon
basics.
If you guys can find that one on deal, it's like a hoodie with, it's almost like a sheepskin
inside of it.
That thing is butter and that's an Amazon basics.
Beautiful.
Right?
Yeah.
I think a lot of the Amazon stuff is going to be on prime, not all of it, but I know
in the past it has all of their echo products are very likely to be on deals.
Okay.
Yeah, I would look for Amazon basic stuff and like echo stuff.
Okay.
Good advice.
Oh, I think that's probably true.
And I think Apple products too, sometimes I think I would be looking for those.
I'd be a safe bet.
Historically speaking, and we don't, you know, we don't know.
But we will know when we wake up in the morning.
So okay.
So we talked about a few Alaska things.
I don't think we went very deep on the Alaska.
So let me jump back to that for a moment and say that in addition to the outer wear and
jackets and things, I would also look for shoes.
I would look for waterproof sneakers, hiking boots, maybe.
But when you read the reviews, really focus on comfort unless you're going to wear something
in for like three or just six months before you take it to Alaska, make sure that they
get really good reviews for comfort because some hiking boots are really, really stiff.
So that would be my advice for Alaska.
Other items for Alaska, you know, you mentioned premium eyewear.
I think sun glasses are way more critical for Alaska than people think.
The sun can be very bright, you know, more than needing like a scarf and gloves and all
of that.
You need a good pair of sunglasses, a little bit of sunscreen and lots and lots of layers.
So yeah.
If you are taking a lot of layers and your luggage might tend to get heavy, you might
want to look into a luggage scale if you're flying to your travel port.
Good one.
A luggage scale.
I'm sure there'll be some of those on deal tomorrow.
Almost guaranteed.
How about compression packing cubes or space saver bags that you can compress your clothing
down into if you're going to Alaska?
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's talk about warmer weather destinations.
I know people aren't really so much trying to go to warm weather destinations right now.
In fact, some of us live in hot weather and we're actually trying to escape that heat,
right?
But what if you are doing like a Caribbean cruise or something?
What do you need besides a bathing suit?
Yeah, bathing suit and some nice cool, cool clothes.
And sunglasses.
Yeah.
And sun dresses and hybrid shorts.
I would be looking for resort wear probably.
One of the main reasons why you might want to look for resort wear at this time of year
or two on Amazon is because it becomes increasingly difficult to find it in stores.
So I was at Walmart the other day.
Okay, you guys, it's July.
It was July 6th and I walked into Walmart and low and behold in the ladies fashion area,
the first shirt that was displayed was like an olive green color and it had in huge letters
it said, it's fall, y'all.
And I was like, no, it's not.
It's July and I'm sweltering and it ain't fall.
So don't be put in your pumpkin merchandise in front of me yet, but the retailers do, right?
So by the end of July, the summer clothing is gone.
All the sweaters are out.
You're like sweltering and walking up and seeing all the burgundy sweaters and thinking,
no, I need jean shorts.
I need resort wear.
So Amazon's probably going to be your ticket for finding flowy, nice, comfortable clothing
for your Caribbean cruise or your Mexican Riviera cruise when it's still really hot.
It's funny how they rush stuff like that.
How much you want to bet it's going to be like a week before Starbucks starts pushing
out their spice, pumpkin spice latte.
I know, which is fine with me.
I like the pumpkin stuff.
That's fine.
I just don't like it when I can't find summer clothes in the middle of the summer heat.
When you were growing, when you were going to school, do you remember trying to school
shop and it was still hot when it was back to school and all you could find was corduroy
pants and like fall sweaters.
I remember that.
That's how it was where I lived.
It was like, oh my gosh, it's August.
And I, you know, it's hot.
So anyway, I digress.
Yeah.
Could have used Amazon back then.
Mm-hmm.
What do you mean?
All right.
Okay.
So I don't know.
Maybe we're beating this to death here about the cruise shopping portion of it.
Let me just ask you what you will be looking for.
Oh, man.
What I'm going to be looking for on Amazon Prime Days is the items that I have put in my
cart that I have thought for the last few weeks.
You know, that's actually just a little bit too expensive for me.
I'm not going to buy it.
So let me get specific and tell you, I have several dresses that I've been watching that
are like $45 and I hope they come down to maybe 30, right?
I have some cosmetics items that I'm looking for.
I'm looking for some new eye liners, some bronzers, things like that.
I'm looking for some basics, like some long sleeve teas that I've been watching.
I'm not looking for big things like tech or any type of camera equipment or anything
like that.
I'm looking for these little things where I can snag a deal that I've been like keeping
an eye on and really watching for quite some time.
I also really like looking for home and kitchen items during this period and even though
we're trying to keep our home kind of clutter free, we are in a new house to us and I'm
still kind of experimenting with what works.
I'm going to be looking for like Pyrex glass storage and other glass storage things and
then I guess the big one thing I'm going to be looking at is if I can find a barbecue
girl because when we moved, I sold my barbecue and I really miss having a barbecue.
I want to be able to get out there and do some outdoor cooking.
So I'm going to be keeping an eye on that but I'm really selective about what I want.
I have in my cart, I have Mr. Cruz tips TV, I have this Kenmore 3 burner outdoor grill and
you know what color it is?
It's blue.
It's teal.
It's absolutely Cruz tips TV perfection.
It looks like the Caribbean Sea.
Why did someone make a barbecue that looks like the Caribbean Sea?
I have to have it, but it's $399 and I'm not going to spend that on my gas grill because
I just, you know, I like the thrill of the deal, thrill of a chase.
So I'm kind of watching that right now.
I don't think it's going to go on deal.
I think it's way too optimistic to think that that sucker is going to drop in price.
Yeah, usually the stuff I am watching doesn't, I know what just works that way.
The luck of the draw and you have to be more opportunistic with it and you see something
that you can go well.
Now it's a good time to get that.
Yeah.
So what are you watching for?
I'm looking for like fall clothing.
No, you're not.
No, I'm just messing with you.
That was funny.
Yeah.
You're looking for a burgundy sweater?
Yeah, with the pumpkins on it.
No, I, you know, since we have moved, it's opened up a whole canner.
They're worms with, with home improvement type projects.
So I'm looking for like man stuff.
I'm looking for, you know, gardening tools, garage tools, bug zappers, bug zappers, yeah.
So I'll keep riding on mowers and I think it's reasonable to assume that stuff like that
is going to be on deal for prime day because there are so many companies that make that
type of stuff.
One of them is going to take advantage of it for sure.
Yeah.
I think probably green works.
Oh, yeah.
Green works.
And their products are fairly good, you know, they're not top of the line, but they're
good deals.
I'm not a top of the line kind of guy anyway, so yes, you are.
Well, I mean, I would be if I could be, but, but I'm not, you know, so yeah.
We need a few specific like garden items.
You said gardening, but I think what you really meant is like yard care.
Like we need a really high powered trimmer, like a hedge trimmer, not a hedge trimmer.
What do you call those?
Just a trimmer.
Right?
A weed whacker.
Yes.
We got a weed whacker, but it was too small for our property and we need like a, we need
like an industrial string.
So, so what did you say?
You said gardening versus what?
Gardening versus yard care.
Yard care.
Gardening is like me with my flowers and my vegetables and yard care is like you with
your ride on mower that's like 24 house powers with a 54 inch platform.
You have to understand.
I'm a man.
Yes.
I got like this limited vocab like like you said what color and I said blue and you said
teal.
Right.
Like what are you talking about?
There's only like six colors.
You know, there's red, you know, blue, six yellow, teal, what do you, there's like four
colors.
And now I'm saying gardening and you say yard care.
Well, because you know, I don't want, you know, gardening gardening is like the makes you
think of me.
I'm the gardener in the family.
I suppose.
You're the man.
I use catch all terms.
Yes.
You do.
That's okay.
No, it's fine.
Okay.
So any tech stuff you're going to be looking for on prime day?
I don't think so.
Okay.
If I didn't have the majority of the, the hints to 360 stuff, I would be looking at that.
I have released a new go what they call a go and it's a, you know, it's sticking
and peat with cameras like the GoPro and DJI's action cam.
But it just doesn't look all that appealing to me and I already have the latest version
of the GoPro.
So I think I'm going to skip this one, but you don't have the go.
No, I have, I have the one and I have the two.
I think this is the three.
Okay.
And I'm just not going to do it because the one and the two sit in my drawer all the
time and I almost never use them because I'm using the GoPro or the DJI.
Is this one of those times though when you say I'm not going to do it and then right
before an X cruise, you're like, I've decided to get the go.
It's going to be here prime two day shipping.
No.
I'm definitely not.
Okay.
So you're really not into it.
Okay.
Because essentially what they've done is it's the same camera is a two, but they've added
like this.
I don't, I don't want it like slide into a GoPro like device.
Oh, that's kind of cool.
It is kind of cool.
And if I didn't have, you know, the GoPro, it might make me buy it.
But yeah, I don't know if they had taken the quality up a little bit in terms of, you
know, the footage it's producing, I might consider it, but they haven't.
It's almost exactly the same if not exactly the same.
Yeah.
So I'm not going to be spending the money.
And you know, I've got this gardening, you know, worked.
Yes.
Because you're, you're gardening in my fall of fashion.
You're gardening with your pumpkin's water.
Yeah.
Well, I don't know, Mr. Chris, it's to be, I think that was a good, um,
I don't know, brainstorming session about what could be eventually prime day, but you
know, we actually need to get to bed because we have something special going on tomorrow.
And that is that when you all wake up, if you're a glutton for punishment, grab your morning
coffee because at 8.30 a.m. Central, 9.30 Eastern, let me back that up.
Let's start over 6.30 Pacific, 7.30 Mountain, 8.30 Central.
This is 2 stage, July 11th and 9.30 Eastern, if you're a glutton for punishment and you
want to hang out with us on YouTube, I'm waking up super early and I'm going to go find
the best travel deals for prime day.
And we're going to do a YouTube live stream featuring them.
So if we own them, if we have them or even if we don't have them and we're buying them
or we want them, we're going to show you what we've found.
We'll come chill with us on YouTube and see what we think are some of the best deals.
And then right after that, we'll do a little Amazon live where we'll kind of talk about
all the deals on Amazon on Tuesday, July 11th.
So people know where to find us on YouTube.
I hope so, yeah.
They may not know where to find us on Amazon.
Okay.
Why don't you tell them?
Why don't you tell them?
Amazon.com, forward slash shop, forward slash cruise tips TV.
We do have a sort of like a shopping list there for prime day deals.
So check that out.
But I'd say all and all.
It's just a good place to check for travel stuff.
We have state room essentials, we have camera gear, we have toiletries, and we have tons
of cruise fashion.
In fact, I just updated the cruise fashion, fashion, fashion, the cruise fashion section.
We took a whole bunch of things that I've recently purchased, outfits, clothes, shoes,
jeans, shirts, and we took photos of them around our property.
And we put them up on Amazon so you guys could see what I've been wearing lately.
This is all the stuff I've bought in the last three weeks.
It's kind of fun to check out.
So go check out our shoppable photos too.
Is this a new fall lineup?
You know, I would say it's more like cruise wear.
It really is.
Except for the jeans.
But if you're going to Alaska, if you're going to the Caribbean, wherever you're going,
there's a little something there for you.
Lots of loose, flowy tops, some jeans, shorts, some jeans.
Nothing fancy.
Well, I shouldn't say nothing fancy.
I do have one like a strapless red dress that we took a picture of in front of the barn.
That's kind of fun.
It's fancy.
It's fancy, all right?
So yeah, there's some fun things in there, but we'd love to say hello to you.
So we're going to sign off so that you can come see us because if you're listening to
this live, it might be Tuesday morning, it might be prime day.
You need to get yourself over to Amazon and start doing some shopping and tell us what
you find, message me again throughout the day and let me know what those deals are that
you're finding.
And if I can, I will share them out with our audience on my breaks, my lunch breaks, whatever
I've got during the day.
This was fun.
Thanks for the idea, Mr. Cruise.
It was all you.
Not me.
I loved it.
And I think that hopefully people will find some good deals tomorrow.
All right, folks.
We'll see you live.
Until next time, we'll see you on the high seas.
