calls, their, their cruises, they call them voyages, they call their room
sweets, because they truly are. This is a luxury experience. So if you are
someone who's always been a little bit curious about the luxury cruise
experience in Alaska or otherwise, we hope to be sharing some exciting content
with you and a different perspective on cruising. Special thanks to Seaborn
for inviting us to Alaska on this journey. We are going to be their guests for
about ten days visiting some awesome off-the-beaten path places. We're
cruising round trip from Vancouver, and we're going to be doing a lot of
scenic cruising, hitting some of the more popular ports like Ketchikan and
Juno, but also getting to see places like Sitka and the Indian Islands,
Icy Strait Point, which is going to be new to us. We're also going to be
visiting Tracy Arm and Ringel. I hope I'm saying that appropriately, properly
pronouncing that right? And we're also going to be going to Misty Fjords. So
we have so much to share with all of you about this. Thank you very much by
the way friends for your patience as we made this announcement, as we were
kind of confirming things up. We had told you last week on the podcast that we
had a really big surprise coming, and this was our big surprise. Speaking of
last week's podcast, Mr. Cruise Sub-Cv, our ultimate cruise playlist music
podcast, was so much fun. I really enjoyed sitting down and laughing with you
and talking about music, and I've put together my own cruise playlist for
this one. I got so many DMs and emails from people just saying how they
laughed when we were talking about the music that we love and how, of course,
no one really mentioned my terrible singing voice, but I think it was a fun
one. So thank you for hanging out with me on that. That was awesome. You do not
have a terrible singing voice. Here we go again. I don't know. I don't
know. So let's talk about this ship. It's so exciting. So see born Odyssey. We
talked about how big it was. It's a smaller ship coming in at 458 people. It was
delivered in 2009, and when it was built at the time, it actually had the
highest ratio of space per guest in the entire cruise industry, meaning you
could really feel like you have space to spread out. It also at the time had
the largest spa on entering any luxury ship, and private renders on 90% of
the suite. So this is definitely meant to be a luxurious suite. Now since then
Seaborn has taken on other vessels, of course. In fact, Odyssey has identical
sisters, Sojourn, which came in in 2010, and Seaborn Quest in 2011, and, of
course, since then, they've made bigger ships, like 600 passenger ships,
like encore and ovation and more since then. So if you're wondering a little bit
about Seaborn, they are an ultra luxury cruise line. And what that means for
Seaborn is that they are really focused on service. So it's luxurious, but
relaxed, and a lot is included in these cruises. Not everything is included,
but a lot of the things that you might pay for on another cruise line, like
your dining, your drinks, things like that are all included. And the ships are
really intimate too. You have up to maybe 300 suites on these vessels, and
they're small, they're intimate, and they actually get to go where larger ships
can't really go. So they're not all necessarily expeditionships per se, but
when you, you know, just by nature of being a smaller ship, you're going to get
to navigate into those special places that you can't always go on a bigger
cruise ship. And I'm really excited to say that we're going to be experiencing
some of that on our cruise. Lots of scenic cruising, lots of sea days, lots of
relaxation, and some sleep. I think we can agree that we are so ready for some
R and R. Another thing about these vessels, they feature gourmet dining, and
we're going to talk a little bit about a partnership that they have a little
bit later in the show, but I have heard such good things about the dining on
seaborn, that it's unpretentious, that their partnerships are amazing, and that
the food is just so incredibly good. It really differentiates this cruise line.
So yeah, gosh, gourmet dining. What else, Mr. Cruise, Sub-City?
Fine wines at lunch and dinner, open bars throughout the ship, so many
things. More things that are included in sweet bars, refrigerators, stock
with your preferences. We'll be asking for your Diet Coke on day one, my
small selection of jins on day one, right? But it's really exciting, and all the
dining is complimentary. Another thing that's interesting about seaborn is that
gratuities are neither required nor expected. Those are included in your
cruise fare. So a very interesting concept, and I can't wait to check it out.
It's going to be cool. Alright, so Mr. Cruise, if I were to ask you how many,
what do you think, how many staff members to guess do you think they have on
seaborn? Like what would you guess? Like on a normal cruise line, I don't
know, what is it? Who knows what the ratio is? Probably like one to five or
something like that. What would you guess is the ratio of staff members to
guess on seaborn? I have no idea. It's nearly one to one.
I had a feeling you were going to say that, but that just sounds crazy.
It seems impossible, doesn't it? I'm really interested to see how that
plays out. I've heard that they're very friendly and warm. They get to know
you, know your name, all of that good stuff. So I think it's going to be, it's
going to be great. They have, they have some evenings under the stars with
barbecue dinners. They have gala parties with live music, dancing on the deck,
things like that. There's a lot of music on these ships too. I've seen a lot
of, a lot of parties, even in Alaska, around the pool, they have caviar in
the surf in some locations, caviar on ice in other locations. They also have
those, the marinas with water sports on some of these vessels. And our vessel,
I believe, does have that. The interesting thing about seaborn is that most of
their cruise excursions actually you do pay for. So you pay extra for the
cruise excursions. It's not like everything is included with a lot of the
luxury and ultra-luxury lines. There's variances in what is included. But those
are something that people will pay a little bit extra for on these vessels.
But they do have those cool zodiac style adventure excursions. They have
kayaking, hiking. A lot of things that really bring you a lot closer to nature
and in smaller groups with guides that seaborn employees and trains. So it's
going to be a cool experience. I can't wait to see Alaska from a totally
different perspective. It's going to be, it's going to be really special in
relaxing. So I want to talk about some of the things that we're we're most
excited about for this cruise to Alaska. Of course, just getting back to Alaska
is going to be so wonderful. Being able to bring you all some new ideas for
things to do in port, some new packing inspiration. If all goes well, we plan
to actually film a little packing spot on the ship in our suite, which is
going to be really cool. So we'll let you know how we kind of packed a bit
differently for our ultra luxury cruise and things that we did a little
differently because there's a bit of a dress code on seaborn that's
somewhat different from some mass market lines. And we'll talk about in a minute.
But what I was talking about before I kind of shifted gears is some of the
things that were really excited about the first thing. And one of my friends
was telling me today that she had experienced this when she cruise with seaborn.
And you're going to love this one. And it's tea in the observation lounge. I
know that we are all in our family. We are big tea lovers. That is going to be
so nice. Kind of the ultimate way to relax. Another thing I'm really excited
about is that these seaborn typically includes jackets in their cold-weather
destinations. Like if you're going to Antarctica or Alaska, they actually
include jackets in your size delivered to your state room. So we are packing one
less thing on this trip. They are providing us with waterproof jackets. Like a
really pretty teal blue with logos on them. So if you're curious what they
look like, jump over to our social media. And I'll do my best to get some
photos of these jackets posted as soon as we board. And by the way, folks, if
you're not already following us on Instagram and Facebook, make sure you check
out our stories in our feed posts over there because that's going to be really
cool. Also excited about the caviar on ice concept. Now I'm not a huge caviar
fan. Junior seems to think he likes caviar. Has he ever even had caviar
that you know of? He has. And he is not a fan. Why does he think he's going to
like it? This is so funny. But we'll see how he does, right? I don't know. I
think he's going to be more into the expedition style excursions, right?
Getting out on a zodiac, getting a little closer to a glacier. I think he's
really stoked about that. This next one, I know you are going to love. And that
is that they have in-room dining, in-sweet dining, pretty much around the
clock. So you have basically have a table made for dining in your room. And you
can order around the clock room service with, you know, like actual, an actual
beautiful setup service, multi-course service. And it is going to be a real
luxury. So I think you're going to take advantage of that. Why would you ever
leave? Why would you ever leave? You just stay in your room the whole time,
right? So you can actually order like dinner from the restaurant menu and have
your meal serve course by course in the sweet or even on your veranda, which
sounds so good. Okay. Now this is this next thing, this next dining highlight
from Seaborn Odyssey is something that I have heard about from foodies that
are in the know about Seaborn. And that is the grill by Thomas Keller. And
basically the grill by Thomas Keller is kind of a steakhouse that celebrates
like the, it's like the classic chophouse genre of the 60s and 70s. So it
kind of looks that way. And then the menu choices are that way. So you're
going to have things like Caesar salad served table side and beautiful cuts
of beef and just cool kind of retro desserts. Now for those of you who aren't
familiar with who Chef Thomas Keller is, he is the chef and proprietor of the
French laundry, ad hoc, Bouchon, Bouchon bakery, per se. So if you're a
foodie, you probably know about French laundry. That's a famous one. And he is
the first and only American-born chef to hold multiple three star ratings
from Michelin Guide. So this is going to be something else. I've heard nothing
but amazing things about the grill by Thomas Keller. And believe me, we made
our reservations already. And all of this is included in your cruise fare. Can
you imagine I'm going to the French laundry? That's an expensive, and this is a
chef that that serves very, very pricey, fixed price meals and other places.
And it's just so cool that they've partnered with him on the ship. So we
will let you guys know in great detail how we like the grill by Thomas Keller.
Now we're in a 10-9 voyage. And my understanding is you can go at least once
on your voyage. That's kind of how they word it. So you're allowed to make the
one reservation. But if we love it, we'll have to see if a second reservation is
allowed. Or if that's not something that you can do. But I am really excited
about the food. I think we've been our life has been so busy lately. We really
haven't been cooking you guys. We've been eating out. And it's not been the kind
of food that I'm really proud to say we've been eating out. We've been eating
kind of the stuff that you got to go get some quick food. Fast food. We've
been eating some fast food here and there. And not all of it has been fast food.
But it's it's the quick stuff where you go and you're like, I can't cook.
I just don't want to deal with it tonight. And so the idea of actually getting
back on track with our nutrition. But having this beautiful opportunity to
enjoy some fine cuisine for 10 days, it almost sounds unbelievable to me.
I'm thinking, wow, after you know the the quick tuna wraps I've been making
for lunch and the pizza hut runs. We've been making on occasion. I'm so
ready for a little luxury. So Mr. Chris of TV, do you even know what ports
we're going to? I don't even know if you know. I do know. I don't think you
even know. We have been so busy with everything that we're doing in our little
corner of the world these days that I think Mr. Chris of TV just knows that
we're going to Vancouver like immediately and getting on the ship. But other
than that, I think he's all he's in the dark. So I'm going to tell you and our
audience at the same time what our ports are. You ready for this? I'm ready. Let's
do this. Okay, so we're starting off of Vancouver and then we're hitting up
our first day is like cruising only and it's cruising the Queen Charlotte
sounds. That's not a port. But then immediately after that we go to catch a
can and that's a tender port, interestingly enough on this one. Then we're
cruising Clarence straight and then snow pass. So those again are just sort of
areas where you're buzzing through. You're not actually getting off the ship, the
voyage is just kind of making its way through. And then the vessel stops in
Sitka, another tender port for us. And Sitka is if you've never been it's
absolutely beautiful and a wonderful off the beaten path place to visit. Really
great seafood, good well-watching. You can go see the bears there. There's so
much to do. So we're there for a nice full day. And then the following day
we're in the Indian Islands for some seaborne ventures activities. Those are the
ones where seaborne has excursions that take you like right from the ship out
into that area. And then we go is the same day in the afternoon we go to
icy straight point. So icy straight point is the place where they have that
beautiful tram that takes you way way way up and they have a zip line that
comes all the way down. So we might have to check into that zip line because
that looks so so fun. And then after ISP we have Juno and then following that we
have a glacier viewing day and Tracy arm or end-to-cott arm just kind of
depending I think on how the weather is holding up. And then it's a few more
sea days and a visit to Ringel Alaska which I know nothing about and I can't
wait to see what that is like. And then after that it's all scenic Mr.
Cruz's TV. It's Misty Fjords and the Royal Channel the Seymour Narrows
and Back to Vancouver. Did you know Mr. Cruz's TV that Tracy arm which has
other names to they actually call it Tracy arm Fords or Tracy arm or Fords
terror wilderness area. Listen to how big it is it covers 653 179 acres and
one fifth of its area is covered by ice. That's so cool. That's a lot of ice.
So crazy. And then Misty Fjords and if you were wondering what's kind of the
lore with Misty Fjords it's a very special place to see and in fact on our
itinerary we don't even really know what time we're going through Misty Fjords
because most likely because of the mistyness you don't really know what the
weather conditions are going to be like so you have to get through in daylight.
But Scottish American journalist John Meer compared this listen to this 2.3 million
acre monument to Yosemite. So it kind of reminds them of Yosemite it's often
shrouded in mist and it's just a beautiful true wilderness and I think he was
probably saying that because Misty Fjords has those kind of vertical granite
cliffs like they have in Yosemite and it just rises up above sea level and is so
so pretty but again a very wet place it gets over 150 inches of rain every
year so I'm thinking we're probably going to see some wildlife there they may
have mountain goats there's brown bears black bears wolves sea lions bald
eagles porpuses there's even orca and humbaks in the area so hoping that we
could spot some whales I know junior would probably love that I have my
binoculars packed by the way yeah so we are ready we are ready for that
I need those yeah need those so those are our beautiful ports friends and
let's go back to kind of talking a little bit about the the packing game for
this one so interestingly enough on our 10-night cruise we only have one
formal night so out of the 10 nights even though things are a little bit more
dressy on seaborn there's only one formal night but they do have sort of a
dress code in the evenings on seaborn now I think that it's to me it's just
pretty standard it's kind of what you would think of as like a classic
cruising dress code right so during the day normal resorts style attire if
you're out of the pool deck you can wear your swimsuit right everything's cool
with shorts and jeans but in the evening they actually have two different
dress codes so most nights they have like their elegant casual dress code and
that means that if you're going to the dining room men are supposed to wear
slacks with a collar dress shirt or a sweater of some sort right jacket is
optional ladies slacks skirt blouse pant pant suit I guess you could say or
dress and that is in the dining venue so if you're just walking around the
ship I think it's probably okay to be wearing you know your jeans and your
sweater from the port day but if you're going to the dining venues they do
have a dress code now in the dining rooms during these evenings jeans are sort
of discouraged now there has been some there's been some changes to this
policy where they're kind they kind of discourage it for men but it's sort
of allowed for women but for purposes of just informing you all we're just
going to say that jeans are discouraged in the main dining venues at night
formal night it's pretty it's pretty dressy for men they recommend either a
tux a suit or slacks and a jacket is required a tie is not required for
gentlemen by the way for ladies an evening gown or other formal apparel and
yeah that's that's the way that it's going to be mr. christian cv so jeans are
cool during the day you're fine and jeans but at night the types of things
that we've packed for the evening for me I've packed dresses with sleeves so
think of like a long sleeve dress that's maybe a shorter like a mini dress
but has sleeves so that I can stay warmer and then one formal kind of a gown
type of a dress and for the boys we're doing a combination of collard shirts
like polos and button ups and then just like dressier pants so for junior like
a chino for mr. cruise tips tv some pants we purchased on amazon they're like
a nice flat front low maintenance kind of a dress pant that he can also wear
for formal and then he's packing a nice jacket a couple a couple of ties
just you know casey ones variety actually no you only have one tie and then
dress shirts so we're keeping it pretty simple but for those of you who are
or thinking that's a little too formal I think it's not quite as dressy as it
sounds because during the day you're going to see everyone in those normal
jeans leggings the packable puffy jackets of course you know those normal
layers is just in the dining venues they're a bit more elevated so mr.
cruise TV what do you think about all this this is a lot to sort of take in
now we're we're packing up and leaving really soon folks so we're kind of
we're a little glazed over today we're still working on our packing game and
kind of getting things going packing a little bit more last minute than
usual but how do you feel about all this are you excited it's exciting yeah it's
going to be different it's going to be different I'm really looking forward to
just trying something new and different I'm looking forward to sleeping just
getting some good high quality sleep I think that's one of the wonderful
things about cruising is you sort of feel like rock to sleep and I feel like
that's going to be one of the best things I'm also really excited about the
service on seaborne I've heard that it's really special and it's I think it's
going to stand out quite a bit and we've been spoiled by some great service on
incurses that we've been on but I think this one's going to probably be pretty
memorable I'm looking forward to a little bit of time in the cabin yes I know
you are you really Mr. Christy's to be if he had his way he would do all in
room dining for the entire 10-night cruise and that's okay so we have
zero excursions planned at this point friends we're gonna check it out we'll
make it onto the ship and we're gonna wing it a little bit more than we
normally do and I think that's okay I think sometimes you don't have to have a
plan and that's sort of our approach with this one is to enjoy nature from
the ship and sort of see where the experience takes us well I kind of feel like
on a small ship like this that the ship is the excursion oh I like that yeah
we'll see will I get you on a hot tub probably not but we did pack your swimsuit
so I think there's there's a chance so what so what you're saying is there's a
chance if there's a hot tub in our in our room yes there's a chance otherwise
there really is no chance all right well there's no hot tub in our room but there
is a bath tub in our room and part of the seaborne experience is they
actually draw a fancy bougie bath for you okay kind of interesting huh it's
called the pure pampering bath and it is drawn by your personal suite steward
or stewardess you know I have a hard time when I know you don't you're you have a
hard time being spoiled yeah I mean I'll be like I've got this yeah you don't
have to draw my back you know it's it reminds me of the the yacht club where
the butlers wanted to unpack for us oh you're like no you can't do it I've got this I've got this
