Let's get started with today's lesson.
Today's question is whether to say a historic event or an historic event.
We use a or an depending on the first sound of the next word.
We say a hat because hat starts with the consonant sound H.
But we say an hour because in the word hour the H is silent so it starts with the vowel sound, ow and hour.
The historic starts with the H sound. We say historic not historic so the correct way is a historic event.
But some English speakers do say an historic event. You will hear it from time to time.
