Welcome to another episode of Goose Chicks podcast and all women led show mostly focused on the band Goose and the community surrounding them while also exploring all genres of live music. I'm Leslie Mack, producer and co-hosts and on today's show contributor Chelsea hosts the next in our gonna turn it up series with the guys from dogs in a pile where she had a chance to catch up with them ahead of their headlining show at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. Take it away Chelsea. Goose and the community surrounding them ahead of their headlining show. Goose and the community surrounding them ahead of their headlining show at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. That's the top thing too because when it's good it's good and it's fun and you shouldn't think about it. That's the idea you try to remove the thought and if it's good it's gonna be good and the crowd's having a good time. It's just a big energy thing. It's two massive sources of energy it's meeting in the middle and going past it to the other way. I think for me as like in the audience when the band gets into like a flow state and they're just like vibing and doing their thing is when I'm like oh this is really cool. I'm paying attention right now like and yeah so it's interesting to like hear that you also buy off the audience because I'm like so focused on you doing your thing and something I could never do make this kind of music beautiful music so that's really exciting to hear because you know I do firmly believe that like there is a part that you know it's almost the artist's responsibility to completely issue all of that put all that stuff aside all the worrying about what people think because you have to be purely you know in love with it yourself in order to even get that to translate out to an audience. So the hope is that if you like it enough people out there will like it too you know and that's it's kind of scary because you know you don't know and you can't guarantee that people will be into it and sometimes they're not so it's kind of a you know it's like an ego death in that way. And I don't know I always think the Rick Rubin he would always talk about there's this video of him saying he's like as soon as you like if you're writing a song or like making a piece of music it's a little weird it's a little like controversial. But he's like as soon as you make a decision in your music based on whether you think someone else is going to like it it's it's not like it's supposed you know it's supposed to not be like a selfish thing but like it's got to come from inside and like that's just that extra thought you know like oh what's this person going to think of this like all in this happens like how are people going to react it's like again it's about finding the balance of just I don't know I mean self-fulfillment you know and also of course fulfilling the the you know what needs to be fulfilled for the piece you know truly and honestly. Also I think I think there's something to be said to you about how like how like for me with an audience I feel like I think we all feel ashamed some degree but like when we're playing like more local shows and like we have a lot of our friends out there and like it feels like we know have to cry like that brings a whole other energy into like the show too and like just knowing who's going to be there and who and what and just when you know people in the crowd and you know what they feel and what they like because you know them so well it's like it's so it's such an interesting other perspective like while you're playing on stage too and I just think it's cool and it's it's really cool too when we go travel to faraway places and there's people we know that come to those shows because like actually there's two sides of it to where like when there's literally nobody there you know and then you're kind of like it's almost like you have like this new like you have like a new like I don't know you're like the new kid almost kind of feeling where you have like this new front like not really but yeah yeah what I'm trying to say but then like when you see somebody you know at one of those shows then you get a little more comfort in what you're playing so there's it's it's pretty cool in that way that's cool to hear that because I go to a lot of local shows and like my friends are the ones playing and I'm just like dancing and I'm obviously enjoying it but at the same time like I think that they since they know me they also are like oh this is my friends just having fun hanging out and you get loose and you can just like chill like you're saying and just it becomes more just like you're vibing with your friends than like putting on a show that's cool so if people are unfamiliar with your music where do you send them to get a crash course in dogs in a pile I mean it's tough it's tough because like you know it's like it's like diving into a discography of you know somebody like Frank Zappa you know he's got 50 albums that were put out well that were put out during his life and however many else came out you know another 50 or so after he's diving that that continues so to dive into a discography like that is tough and it's the same thing with us not that we have that many recorded albums out but every single show gets uploaded to band camp and nugs so if you're into the live thing just grab a show off there really just look at you know look at the picture on the cover see which one you like the best that's and then yeah yeah yeah yeah it's a great way to go through dogs yeah I was going to say and band camps probably the move if you don't have a nugs subscription yeah and these band camp you can listen for free for a while is yeah I mean then of course you know the footage we're really proud of the recorded stuff too and and we definitely strive to make it different to the to the live experience but equally satisfying in its own right so if you're into the studio stuff give that a go you know right I've listened on both nugs and on Spotify into the album so I mean I think there's time and a place for both yeah you're in the mood for live by or if you're in the mood for you know at work I like to listen to like recorded stuff and less like feeling like there's a crown around me yeah yeah sometimes you want that crown but so so also where can everyone follow you and support your work at Jeremy Kaplan Music on Instagram that's me thanks no just kidding we are we are we are at dogs in a pile band on Instagram we have a very good Facebook presence as well you can follow us there and join the dog bound it's a great community of people it's like you know our little little band group private group for our friends and you know cool people so if you're a cool person hop on it Jeremy how did you just make a joke and promote yourself at the same time it's it's you just got to be smooth baby smooth wasn't your old handle long hair and hippie freak yep and I'm I maintain it I don't post on there but I maintain it don't be also ever having yeah there's a link to my to my band oh yeah I got cash out too or sell if that's what you go and you're continuing to tour for the next few months or what's what's the future yeah and in the extremely short term we've got a couple more dates after this run finishes up on our own and then we go out with pigeons for a nice long stretch was that a three and a half four week stretchers so we're shooting through the Midwest and California West Coast so if you know it's gonna be a lot of fun we love those guys that'll be cool goose open for pigeons a while back and a ton of people that I've met in goose world they found goose through pigeons because they saw them open for them so that'll be cool that's an interesting parallel there so that's cool for you guys cool experience anything else that you want to add or that we didn't get to want to chat about um party words yeah well yeah I just want to thank you for having us on for sure um nice nice chill interview not if they're not all like this thanks to the listeners for listening because without you what's the point we are about a tree and a forest also I want to say thank you and I just think it's cool because that in some interviews a lot of questions help you like learn a little bit about like give you really the bigger picture of what is happening for us you know so it's like yeah thank you it's really so just to hear what the other people in your band think yeah we don't we don't ever talk about this kind of yeah we're actually gonna have a meeting great after a long time because our conversation what the hell was that awesome well thank you so much um good luck on the rest of your fall tour and your pigeons run and um maybe we'll see you again here in the future cool thank you so much you Thanks again to Chelsea for the amazing interview and to all the guys in Drugs and Appile for giving us their time.
