Alright, let's get into today's topic,
my friends, and that is the Over Under
for the Boston Bruins this season,
set by Fandall at 100.5 points.
So, if you take the Over,
you're expecting the Bruins to amass at least 101 points.
If you take the Under, you think
there could be 100 point team, but likely less.
The Bruins are coming off a season
in which they recorded 135 points.
So this is 34.5 points fewer
than they garnered last year.
But some regression is not just to be expected,
but pretty much guaranteed.
They will not be as good as they were last season.
But there are some indications
that it's still a safe bet to take the Over.
Those of you who have been listening every day
will know that I'm still very high on this team defensively.
They have an elite goal-tending tandem,
arguably the best in the NHL
between Linus Allmark, Jeremy Swaman.
Those two guys together
mean the Bruins offer no reprieve
to the opposition in net.
There are some teams have a clear number one goalie
and then the back up is, you know,
not necessarily a gimme or a scheduled loss,
but the gap between their number one goalie
and their back up is extremely wide
and you can bet on teams playing their back ups
against lesser competition.
And given the opposition a better chance to win
than with the starting goalie in net.
But necessarily the case with the Boston Bruins.
On any given night,
Linus Allmark or Jeremy Swaman
can stand on their heads,
put in above average performances
and get the W for the Boston Bruins.
That's a huge reason why
you can confidently take the Over
and expect the Bruins to get at least 101 points
because of the goal-tending alone.
It's often net for the Boston Bruins.
The defense is also going to be very strong in front of them.
You have an incredibly solid top four
in Charlie McAvoy,
who likely will be in the Norris conversation
if not a Norris finalist,
perhaps even the Norris Trophy winner of the season.
You have his partner in McGryslic
who is in a contract year.
You can bet that he's going to come out strong
and have his Lindholm,
Brandon Carlo,
a fantastic second pairing
and then some combination of Derek Forbord,
Kevin Schett and Kirk,
Jacob's Borrel
and perhaps even Ian Mitchell in the bottom pairing.
The Bruins prioritized keeping the goal-tending tandem together,
resisting the temptation to sell high on Linus Allmark
or trade Jeremy Swaman in an attempt
to lure a top flight center.
They prioritized keeping the defense core together,
the only major change is Connor Clifton out,
Kevin Schett and Kirk in.
And they should still be very good
at suppressing the opposition,
keeping the goals against it down.
And those two factors
are huge in terms of taking the over
for the Boston Bruins.
Now again,
they're not going to be the same team they were last year.
There could be some regret,
well there will be some regression.
As a team,
there will be some personal regression
in terms of Linus Allmark's safe percentage.
Perhaps even Jeremy Swaman,
but think about it,
even just look at Allmark alone.
Last year he had a safe percentage of 938.
But even if he comes back to his career average of 919,
that's still very, very good,
still very high end.
And those numbers were in part recorded
as a member of the Buffalo Savers
when they were in very down seasons.
915 and 917 safe percentages
in the two years before he came to Boston
where wins were few and far between in Buffalo.
They were still in their rebuilding years.
And Allmark had a 917 safe percentage
in his first year with the Bruins,
a transition year for himself personally.
He admitted that he was much more comfortable
in Boston last year,
938.
Even if he goes back to his career average of 919,
still a very high end,
Goldtender with Jeremy Swaman as his 1B
who will step in and offer comparable
if not perhaps even better,
safe percentage for the Boston Bruins.
So Goldtending, defense,
that's a big reason why I would say
take the over with respect to the Boston Bruins.
Coming up after the break,
we'll take a less favorable approach,
maybe look glass have empty
and talk about why you should take the under
on the Boston Bruins here in 2023-2024.
Alright, let's talk for a moment about bird dogs.

für die Boston Bruins und dann die andere Spot ist kind
of wide open at the moment and they're hoping for a resurgence
from James Van Riemsdike after a very down season in Philadelphia last year.
Could Trent Frederick jump up and grab that second line left wing spot possibly?
Could someone like Jesper Bokewist or Alex Schaison
surprising camp and ride high exhibition shooting percentages to an NHL
job in the top six maybe? Could Fabian Lysel make a jump?
I had an argument with a guy on X yesterday saying that if if Lysel doesn't
make the team this year then he's a bust and he should be traded.
Well he's still only 20 years old he's had one year in junior one year of pro hockey
in North America still a bit premature for that but it'd be amazing if he was able to step
up and fill that scoring role this season. Yesterday I tweeted that it's a very interesting
situation up front for the Bruins. You probably have Captain Brad,
coiled to brusk on the top line, JVR, Zacka, Posternack on the other top six line,
Frederick Morgan Geeky who needs to take a step forward this season as well with maybe
Danton Heinen or Alex Schaison on the right side maybe Jesper Bokewist
and then the fourth line probably Luchich, John Beecher and Jacob Lauko which will be a banger
of a line not necessarily the most offensive line. They've lost a lot of offense between
Crachy, Bergeron, Taylor Hall, Nick Filino not to mention the guys they added
at the trade deadline, Tyler Bertuzzi who's probably going to have a monster year playing
with Austin Matthews and Mitch Marner in Toronto. Demetri Orlov helped push the offense from
the back end. Some of these guys are going to have to come in on these million dollar contracts,
maybe Kevin Schattenkirk can provide a bit of a boost, a bit more offense than what we saw
from Connor Clifton on the back end but goals are going to be a bit more challenging to come
by this season and that is a big reason why to take the under. I still believe this team is a
playoff team. I still believe they could end up top three in the Atlantic. Again Florida barely
squeaked in, they're starting the season with major injuries on the blue line. Tampa
lost Alex Killorn, they're kind of in transition. Steven Stamcoes said yesterday that he's a
bit disappointed with the lack of progress towards a contract extension. He could become an
unrestricted for agent next summer. He would look good in black and gold. So there's some
unstability there. The Leafs again, very top heavy but they're looking to deploy a second line
of Matthew Nies, John Tavaris, Steven Lafferty. Buffalo is going to be coming up, Ottawa is going to
be coming up. But I still think the Bruins are a playoff team and I say all the time you look
at the roster in training camp, you look at the roster on opening night, you look at the roster
at the trade deadline and on game one of the playoffs to assess their chances. Not necessarily a
finished product in Boston as Don Sweeney could be looking to add a center throughout the course
of the season if it becomes apparent that Zaka Coil can't carry the load in the top six.
But offensively the Bruins could struggle and that's a reason that you might consider taking
the under on the Bruins in 2023-2024.
All right, we're going to wrap up today's podcast by taking a look at some news and notes from
day one of on-ice activity, the training camp and that'll be coming up here after the break.

Now remember, players can play nine games at the NHL level and still be sent back to the OHL
and not have the first year of their entry-level deals kick-in. If he plays with the Bruins for 10
games, then they burn the first year of his entry-level deal. He is still only 19,
but he said his goal is to try to make the Bruins.
Quote, it would be a dream come true to play in the NHL,
but just to put my best foot forward and make it as difficult as possible for them to send me
back to juniors. Can't play in the AHL this year, but he wants to make it a difficult decision.
He said, quote, I'm still young, but why not this year try to make the Bruins and play in the NHL.
End quote.
He had a nice showing at the Prospects Challenge last weekend in Buffalo, one of the better players,
for sure. And he was playing with Jesper Bulkfest in David Posnerak.
Jim Montgomery called Poacher a high-end thinker.
And he likes to place younger Bruins alongside veterans to kind of show them the Bruins way.
Montgomery said, Poacher shown the ability to make a lot of plays.
Yet 80 assists almost last year in the NHL, almost one and a half per game, playmaking center.
Why not see what he can do with a proven goal score? That's the thinking, and they want to see if
there was some chemistry. End quote. Poacher said, Posnerak came up to him, made him feel comfortable,
skating with a guy like that. As a young guy, he felt a little nervous, and Posnerak said,
don't be nervous, just play, have a good practice. So very cool to see Poacher thrive at
training camp. I still expect him to see back here in Guelph. There, season opener is next Friday.
But again, he might get a look with the club out of training camp. And
yes, some interesting decisions ahead for Don Swini and company when it comes to the forward
group. Another guy who's getting a look is Johnny Beecher. He was playing with Luchich and
Lauko. And it seems like they're the favorites to start the season on the Bruins 4th line. They
want a guy who's face off, proficient, a left shot centerman. And they threw those guys out to
see if there was any chemistry. I believe Luchich said that Lauko is a scary guy. That's quite
a compliment from a guy like Milan Luchich. And so that is an early look at what the 4th line could
be come opening night. Finally, Jeremy Swaman spoke for the first time since the end of last season,
said he's eager to team up with Lina Salmark. And keep those goalie hugs you on. And
again, that's a big reason why I think you could take the over with the Bruins, this special,
special goal-tending tandem. He also said of Brad Martion becoming the captains, no surprise.
That's the guy that wears the crest every day the right way, he said. And everybody in the locker
room knew it was coming. Great honor for him. And Swaman said, quote, I'm going to run through
a wall for that guy and same as everyone around me. We all know he's going to put in the work,
show us what it's like to be a Boston Bruin through his actions and of course have a vocal
presence as well. So full endorsement from Jeremy Swaman. On behalf of the entire locker room
for Brad Martion being named Captain as if there was any doubt. Bruins are scheduled to
practice once again here on Friday. They will do so I believe as well on Saturday. They have
two group practices at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. respectively. I believe that's open to the public if you
want to go check it out at Warrior Icerina on Sunday. No pre-games gate but 5 p.m. pre-season game
versus the New York Rangers at TD Garden on Nesson Plus. And on Monday's episode I will be sure to
bring you all news and notes from that game and a new format for how we're going to recap games
here on the podcast this season. That's it for today's episode my friends. I hope you were all
