How to Say Yes to You this School Season

Hello, friends. Welcome back to the CEO teacher podcast back to school season is in full swing here in South Georgia. My kids go back to school tomorrow as I'm recording this video today is August the eighth. So it has been a busy season of back to school supplies back to school shopping haircuts. You name it. We've done it and to be honest, I am mentally overwhelmed, although I'm no longer in the classroom. I still help teachers and this is one of our busiest times of year as well. And so yeah, it's just been a season, a season of struggle and I'm ready to see the other side. So today's episode is all about how to say yes to you this entire school season because it's so important that you put you first mentally, physically, emotionally, and I want to show you just some ways that you can do that this back to school season and really this school season in general. You know, millionaires have an average of seven streams of income. And although you're super busy right now, I hope to plant a little seed in your head that will help you think of some other ways you can put you first and add some extra streams of revenue as a teacher. If you don't already have any residual or passive income or at least a plan for residual income, you're living a very risky life. There is no security in just one job, even a high paying one. Be smart and don't rely on just one source of income. I like to say it's not a great idea to put all of your eggs in one basket. So stick around. I want to show you how we scatter our eggs in different baskets so we can sleep like babies over here. And I hope that today's episode will teach you exactly how to say yes to you this school season. Revenue streams and different platforms are all over the place in this day and age to make extra money. Multiple revenue streams increase cash flow which provides additional financial security and flexibility. According to financial expert Tom Corley, you should have at least three income streams at all times for more income streams. Seven point eight percent of Americans have multiple streams of income to help save for retirement, get out of debt or build up a cushion of spending money. Two out of five young people have a second stream of income. In 2023, 34 percent of people are earning money from multiple streams of income more than last year which was at 29 percent. And finally the most common multiple income streams include your district pay scale, a side hustle, hobbies and more. So let's chat revenue streams outside of the traditional classroom setting and how you can put you first by making extra income this school season so that you and your family will have something to fall back on. You might be asking yourself why would KCB encouraging me to leave the classroom when I really want to know just how to make extra money or more money as a teacher. That's what my degree is in and in reality what I'm encouraging you to do is create a life where you can still teach these revenue streams are all education based and education is what we do here at CEO teacher but this way you get to teach on your own terms. There are four different types of revenue streams in the traditional business world and we can apply each of them to a teaching platform so that you can start making extra money before your next pay period. The first is a transaction based income from sales that are usually one time customer payments. Now this looks a lot like creating digital resources to sell on an e-commerce site or an already established platform. Maybe you want to create an online course where you can talk about one specific topic and break it down into digestible pieces. Maybe you want to sell physical products like teacher t-shirts, jewelry, planners, branded stickers, etc. The next type of income is a service based income. This is where money comes in after providing a service based on time spent. So this is not something that you could do on TPT actually that's against their rules. You must be able to provide a product for someone when they purchase. This is a specific service so this looks like creating a coaching program where you share about your expertise about a subject or you support an audience one on one where they get a detailed and personalized support system for a set amount of time. Maybe like 30 minutes. I love love love this extra stream of revenue because you can make money as quick as tomorrow doing this. You could also tutor students online. I know a lot of you do tutoring after school hours but children and adults need extra help in specific subject matter and you can think of it as educational consulting when you get to help teachers and maybe teacher leaders with their academic pedagogy over the course of a school year or even quarterly. You could also help students in a group setting or one on one. Another thing that you could do for a service based stream of revenue is a membership where you not only support your audience with lessons and resources but you also show them the how to of using those resources to get better classroom results and a community where they can ask questions. That's exactly what the CEO teacher membership does. The third type of way that you can make an extra stream of revenue learning how to say yes to you this school season is a project based stream of revenue. This is where money is earned through one time projects with existing or even new customers. This can look like educational consulting as we chatted about this one prior but as a project based business this could look like you're going into a school and supporting them through a single PD versus a year long relationship. We love the idea of our students doing VA work which stands for virtual assistant. It is crazy popular right now in the teacher author world. There are always people looking for help with resource creation, video previews, Pinterest pinning, blog writing, doing something that helps them take the load off during back to school season like writing descriptions for their TPT products. You can become a VA as quick as tomorrow and it has absolutely no limits. Another project based stream of revenue is monetizing your blog or a podcast and this can be considered project based because some companies will pay you for writing content specific to their program or product and you get paid per post or per episode and again we chatted about a coaching as a service but coaching as a project takes the one-to-one aspect a little bit further. Instead of a single coaching they could bundle calls and have coaching help over a couple of months. At the end of the project they'd be able to see the fruits of their labor. For instance, four coaching sessions that walk them through the process of creating a single quality resource that they can use as a template for their next steps. And the last stream of revenue I want to chat about today is my favorite one of all and that is recurring revenue streams. We love some MRR around here which stands for monthly recurring revenue. This is where earnings are ongoing and payments continue to pay you every single month. It's exactly what it sounds like rather than a single payment from a course or a digital resource. The payments are set up automatically so that you can continue to incur revenue and your audience continues to have access to the content. Kind of like Netflix. The most common teacher based products that would allow for recurring revenue are coaching programs membership masterminds subscription boxes education consulting packages tutoring dates and even influencer and affiliate marketing where you get paid based on the number of people who use your link to purchase or a product or service company like Amazon. Now that you know what types of content brings in recurring revenue and why I am always sharing some of the 10 pathways that our teacher used to find success I want to ask you which one of these will you add to your teacher toolbox today. I am so glad you are learning how to say yes to you this back to school season so that you can finally make your worth as a teacher. Thanks so much for listening to the CEO teacher podcast. I'll see you right here next week same time same place and as always remember the best is yet to come. Bye guys!
