I am declaring that spring is here and I don't know about you but I can almost also
smell Hawkerel Summer coming.
Welcome back to the Wannes Cafe Podcast.
You're go to Hawkerel Walk Podcast.
I'm your host, Trin Tondelier.
Today is going to be a short but sweet episode.
I unfortunately came back from Vegas feeling very, very sick.
I guess that's what happens when you're on the go 24-7 and overbook yourself.
What can I assume?
I wanted to do a big Hawkerel Spring Cleaning Spring Reset episode and I will save that for
next week when I am feeling better so that we can get the full experience.
Today I thought I would do a little teaser, break it up, and do spring cleaning because
as you know cleaning is the number one thing that is going to allow you to set yourself
up for success because I truly believe that if your space is cluttered and messy and
unorganized that is going to be a direct representation of your brain and your mind
and how your mind is feeling.
So if it is also feeling cluttered and unorganized how are you ever going to be able to accomplish
all your goals, right?
So I'm going to sit down, have a quick little episode with you today because you can probably
tell through my voice I can barely breathe.
I'm very nasally but I still had to show up for my girls, okay?
You can count on me, I'm here, but next week is going to be the whole works, everything
Hawkerel Spring Reset and to how to check in on your intentions for 2023 because how?
Literally how is March almost gone?
I swear this year has been going by in a blink of an eye but it has been so much fun.
If you listened to last week's episode you're probably like, okay, okay, we get it spring
cleaning but Vegas how was the panel?
Oh my gosh, you guys, it was so much fun and now I'm so happy that you're able to listen
to me today and also you heard me last week.
Going into that panel I was terrified, I was so nervous, I was starting to doubt myself,
I was like, oh my gosh, I like, how did I take this on?
What was I thinking?
I'm going to freeze up there and after I spoke on the stage, I was like, where's the
mic?
Give it to me, let's go again.
I could do this for hours.
It was so much fun.
So that just goes to show that next time you're feeling imposter syndrome, just remember
this, okay, I did it and if I do say so myself, I did a pretty damn good job speaking in front
of people, public speaking on a stage and I didn't feel prepared.
But remember that if you aren't prepared, the opportunity wouldn't be presented to you,
okay, so really remember that next time you're feeling imposter syndrome and thank you for
all the messages of support after last week's episode and even just a lot of you reaching
out saying you've felt similar ways and you're really thankful that I shared how I was feeling
because it can be easy to see people reaching their goals and being successful and thinking
that you don't know how to do what they're doing when really everyone has no idea what
they're doing.
If you missed last week's episode and have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about
right now, I did an episode on imposter syndrome where I just opened up about how I was feeling
in the hopes that next time you were feeling like that, you could remember the episode and
it would help you just help give you some confidence in going for what you want and pushing
yourself outside of your comfort zone because now that I'm on the other side of my comfort
zone, I am so glad that I did it and it is scary, it is a lot but I have yet to come
across an instance where pushing myself outside of my comfort zone hasn't paid off.
I'm always so glad that I did it.
Okay, but spring is here, I'm manifesting spring, I don't know when the first day of spring
actually is but you know what, the Wellness Cafe to WC is declaring spring, alright?
Next week, like I said, I'm going to go into Hawke Girl spring habits, how to check in
on your intentions for 2023 and more healthy rituals and habits for the new season but
today we're going to get into cleaning because I can talk about this for quite a while and
I think it is very important.
If you're fairly new here, welcome to TWC, we're so happy to have you.
My name is Trent, I'm your host and I used to be, for lack of better terms, a complete
slop.
I always looked like I had just had a tornado ran through my bedroom growing up.
I was so messy, I thought I just was a person who was unable of cleaning and then I realized
that you are able to form and create any new habit that you want to and learning to be
a clean organized person truly changed my entire life.
In high school, I'm pretty sure, okay, so we all know the chair, right?
Where you're trying on clothes and you just pile them up on the chair instead of hanging
them up and then the chair just keeps growing and growing and growing.
Well, my chair, it eventually just passed on to the floor because I overloaded the chair
and then I'm pretty sure I would honestly, I need to stop being so open with you all
right, because this is some embarrassing shit, but I'm pretty sure I would do the smell test
before high school some days and just pick an item up, smell it and see if I was good
to go.
That is how messy and disgusting we're talking.
I had dishes in my bedroom on the floor under my bed from God knows how long ago I had hundreds
of used Q-tips with mascara on them from when I was doing my makeup on my vanity.
I like, you know, you get the picture, okay?
And it is important that I describe, you know, I just let you know exactly how disgusting
I was because now I still can't believe it.
I'm a person who goes to bed with a night routine and a nightly cleaning routine and
I truly can't function unless everything is in its home.
And I'm going to teach you how I got here, okay?
Because like I mentioned, learning how to clean your space and take care of your space.
And really, I always call my apartment my vibe sanctuary, okay?
The vibes have to be correct.
The energy has to be correct.
It has to be high vibe only.
And no one is doing that in a messy environment.
It just doesn't happen.
It has to be clean and taking care of it for the energy to be correct.
My number one tip, I'm sorry if you have heard this before, but for any new listeners,
I think this is a very important tip.
And it's just by starting with 15 minutes of cleaning.
If you aren't a clean person and do not already have the habits, setting a 15 minute timer
on your phone, not touching your phone and just going to town and getting as much done
as you can in 15 minutes is a great place to start.
Because one, everyone has 15 minutes in their day that they can spare.
And if you are telling yourself that you don't, you're lying, okay?
Everyone can find 15 minutes to put aside for the sake of their space and their home.
And secondly, it's a great way to just get in the habit because once you get in the habit,
you'll start getting addicted to cleaning and soon you'll find yourself not even putting
the timer on because you just want to keep up with a clean environment once you see how
much of a difference that it makes.
Okay, now let's get into some actual cleaning habits and what a cleaning routine looks like
for me and what it can look like for you so that you're able to have great high vibrations
and high energy in your apartment.
And you too can make your space a vibe sanctuary.
Okay.
Everyone wants a vibe sanctuary.
That is just how it is.
That's the vibe.
That's what's up.
Honestly, been referring to my apartment as a vibe sanctuary since like 2019.
I remember I posted an apartment tour on YouTube and I called it my vibe sanctuary and my vibe
palace.
And that really is just how you have to think of your space.
Okay.
It's not just your bed and your home and where you store your things.
It is your safe place.
It is your sanctuary.
The vibes have to be immaculate.
Okay.
As you know, you know, we've talked about this before.
Once you leave your vibe sanctuary, shit can hit the fan and people can be crazy.
We know this.
There is some wackos out there who can affect your vibes.
But if you can always retreat back to your apartment and your home and be surrounded by
high vibrations and good energy, you'll always be okay.
Okay.
I'm going to walk you through daily cleaning habits, weekly cleaning habits and seasonal
cleaning habits to really elevate the spring cleaning.
What daily cleaning looks like if you want to be set up for success at a clean space?
Number one, first thing in the morning, you already know we're making the bed.
If you start your day with a made bed, you're setting yourself up on a productive vibe on
a good note and ready to just accomplish everything.
Okay.
I said this before.
I'll say it again.
It's not so much even the made bed that makes a difference.
But starting your day off with a made bed just shows and builds your own confidence in your
wellness journey because you showed up for yourself.
First thing in the morning and you started the day off on the right vibe and that's just
allowing that vibe to be carried out throughout the day and you can stay productive and you
can stay showing up for yourself and following through on the promises that you made to yourself.
And the rest of the list, most of these that can be accomplished within your 15 minute
timer.
If you're keeping up with it and doing it every day, 15 minutes a day really isn't that
bad when you think about it.
So set a challenge for yourself and show up for yourself for 15 minutes.
You can think of it as your wellness cafe spring cleaning challenge.
Okay.
You can even post stories, tag me in your clean spaces.
I love to see it.
Oh, and we can't forget about if you are trying to fit in cleaning and working out and only
have time for one.
My favorite thing to do is throw on a good podcast or a good playlist, put ankle weights
on my wrists or ankles and then get to cleaning.
It's almost like killing two birds in one stone.
Sure, it's not that intense of a workout, but it elevates your cleaning and definitely
I can feel the burn.
Okay, on my arms, if I have two pound weights on, even one pound after 15 minutes of cleaning,
you can feel it back to daily cleaning.
You want to make sure that you are staying on top of dishes.
Okay.
So right now, what that looks like for me is basically anytime a dish is dirty, just constantly
putting it in the dishwasher.
Okay.
If you can put it in the sink or on the counter near the sink, you can open the dishwasher
and put it in.
Okay.
So building that habit is really essential to staying on top of dishes.
And then it makes it really easy to just start the dishwasher when it is loaded.
You know, you don't have to go through the act of loading it.
If when you are dirtying the dish, you just put it in and then it's good to go and good
to be started.
What that looks like for us is mostly every night after cleaning, sorry, after cooking
dinner, we will start the dishwasher and then in the morning, I unload it in my morning
routine.
So what I'm going to do is putting things in their home.
So let me explain.
I used to just throw shit all over the place.
Okay.
Things would pile up everywhere and it was just so easy and that was creating an environment
for things to just get out of control and way too messy.
Now I have a home for everything.
So it's really easy.
If I know where it's going, if something is out or misplaced, you just put it back in
its home and I live downtown.
Okay.
So it's a tiny ass apartment.
So yes, some homes for things are simply just a little neat pile next to my nightstand, but
at least I know where they're going.
So my journals, if they've been left out in the living room, they just come back in their
neat little corner next to my nightstand.
And that is that other things that I do this with is like my makeup.
Every single item has a home.
So when I'm done doing my makeup, I just put it back.
Same with my skincare.
I always, if you follow me on TikTok and Instagram, YouTube, any of that, you've probably seen
my skincare cabinet and every single product in there has its own home.
So when I pull out my drunk elephant face wash, I put it back in that exact same spot.
At first, when you think about this concept, it's a little tedious, but I don't even think
about it now because I've been putting things in their home for so long that you know you
use something, you put it back where you got it from.
And if there's any people who are just naturally very clean listening to this, this probably
sounds so self explanatory and just easy for you.
But trust me, this is something that does not come naturally for everyone, but you can
get to doing it naturally.
And the way you can get to doing this naturally is by everything having a home.
When you're putting things back in the same place that you found them time after time
again, that is making it habitual to keep your area clean and put things where they belong.
And I'm definitely not saying that every single time I do my makeup, it goes back in
the same spot.
I definitely make a mess and leave for a girl's night out with my makeup on the counter.
But when I get home, it all goes in its home and I'm ready for bed.
Same goes throughout the day.
I'm not saying that every single time I use something, it goes back in its home right
away.
I'm more talking about I try my best to put things back in their home when I'm done with
them.
But during that 15 minute cleanup window at the end of the night, I make sure that I'm
going to bed with everything in its home so that when I wake up for my morning moment
and my morning routine, I can start fresh and everything has been put away.
If you're the type of person that just has a clutter buildup very fast, I would really
highly recommend trying to create a home for every item in your apartment or your living
area.
And that way it just becomes habitual to put things back where you got them from.
Implementing small habits like this and small routines is really how I transform myself
from being just an absolute disaster living in a mess to living in a very clean space,
which has made me feel so much better.
And I could honestly never go back.
Once you start doing it, you start realizing how much of an impact a clean space really
has on yourself and your mental health and your clarity and just your well-being.
When you're so used to living in a mess, you don't really realize what you're missing
out on by taking care of your space and creating a vibe sanctuary and having homes for your
items.
And it truly makes a world of a difference.
I would highly recommend starting to do this slowly if it's something that you haven't
already done.
Next up on the daily cleaning list, this is more so the things that happen at the end
of the day during my night routine.
So after we've made dinner, we've cooked and cleaned up the dishes and the dishwasher
is on so that in the morning I can unload it.
I will wipe down all the counters just so everything is clean and ready for the next
day.
If you're an OG TWC member over here, you already know I'm obsessed with the sage cleaning spray.
It smells so good.
I am such a big scent girl and that really goes to elevate the experience and it just
adds to the vibe sanctuary you know.
So you really have to get cleaning products that add to the aroma and the experience of
your apartment.
I opt for the sage cleaning spray.
I always like to use it cleaning products that have clean ingredients because sense is
a big thing for me and while it can really elevate your space, it can also really harsh
in the mood and I hate using harsh chemicals.
I just they don't sit right.
Okay, then your place sometimes I get headaches from two harsh of chemicals.
Cleaning sprays with clean ingredients is the way to go.
I love the sage one.
I also when we went to Target last week, I got the ever spring cleaning stuff.
I just recently got it's called better basics.
It's a small Vancouver business and they also have clean cleaning sprays and it makes a
world of a difference.
So wiping down the counters, just making everything crisp and clean and smelling fresh like eucalyptus
or citrus, it just hits the spot and it hits different.
And then after that for my nightly clean, this is still fitting into the 15 minutes.
This is really quick.
Once you're really in the habit of it, you can do it so fast and you don't really think
about it.
Next is that, dicening the floor.
So I do this after I have sprayed the counters because I wiped all the crumbs and stuff onto
the floor.
Then I dicen.
I am obsessed with my dicen.
It made a world of a difference in my cleaning routine and keeping my area clean.
I'm not saying you need a dicen, but having a handheld or what's the word wireless vacuum,
it makes it so easy to just vacuum up quickly.
And I cannot handle dirty floors when I go to hotels.
I truly sometimes feel like I wish I brought my dicen so that I can vacuum the floors.
Like I said, once you start living like this and creating a routine out of it, you can't
go back to living in a messy environment.
We invested in our dicen.
I know it is so pricey, but I think we waited until it was on sale and we saved up for it
and we bought it.
I want to say five years ago.
So the investment really has paid off, but I know there's other wireless vacuums, just
one that's accessible and easy to use because let's be honest, when I had a vacuum with
a wire and you have to untangle it, plug it in, that I didn't vacuum as much.
Okay.
I'll be honest, these things are pricey, but they elevate your cleaning routine and in
result, that affects my mental health and I will always spend the money.
Even before bed, I just make sure everything is in its home.
I will just clean up the couch cushions, do my little night spray on my bed, make sure
everything is put in its home and I'm ready to go to bed.
Sometimes I'm off the floor, but that's definitely not a daily thing more like twice a week.
So let's move into weekly cleaning.
Number one on weekly cleaning is washing your bed sheets.
If you pick a day and stick to it that you wash your bed sheets on, I usually do this
during my Sunday reset, then that too becomes habitual and you just know, okay, today's
the day I'm going to wash my sheets.
And the thing is, if you can just work up the courage to take them off and throw your
sheets in the washing machine, then you have to follow through with it and put them back
on nothing, nothing.
Oh my goodness, nothing is as tedious as putting bed sheets back on, but it is always
so worth it to tuck yourself in to a clean bed at the end of the night.
I honestly truly think that putting bed sheets like the duvet cover back on the duvet insert
is one of the worst cleaning tasks ever, but it is very rewarding to get that feeling
of going into a clean bed.
And once you take them off and already commit to cleaning them, then you just have to follow
through with it, you know?
Next up is dusting.
This definitely isn't part of the everyday cleaning, but just doing a quick dust two
or three times a week of the TVs, mirrors, any hard to reach, ledges, books, cabinets,
also the baseboards.
Oh my goodness, that is a sneaky thing that sometimes goes unnoticed.
Okay, this is really bad, but do you ever go like wherever I am, I feel like when I'm
going to the bathroom, I always look at the baseboards.
And if they are dirty, that just sets the vibe for the whole place, you know, you, those
little things really go unnoticed, but make a world of a difference.
So I just take the duster, I go through the baseboards, like the back of the TV, stuff
like that where dust collects very easily in the washroom, the cabinets above the toilet,
dust it all off, make sure you're nice and clean along with this after dusting.
You always want to wash your mirrors.
This takes two seconds, but make sure you do it after dusting because sometimes I feel
like when I'm spraying my mirror, the dust like stays, even with the cleaner.
So dust and then wash your mirrors and really this whole process takes about 10 minutes.
And I added on to my cleaning two or three times a week and it really just helps your
space feel so much better.
This is honestly probably like once a week, it should be more but is scrubbing the toilets.
And this is Brody's job.
We really, by now, after living together for so long, we really have a routine and we know
like what jobs are mine and what are his.
I can make a whole entire episode about living with your significant other if anyone is interested
in that because it does take a long time and it's a process to get your routine down and
get in the habit of creating your routine together to keep your space tidy.
And that is one job that is his, but it does have to be done.
So if you live on your own, doing that once a week, honestly, whatever day that you're
doing the sheets, after you put them in, just create a habit of putting your sheets in the
wash and then doing the toilets and then it's done.
I can feel my voice going.
I'm sorry if it's raspy, but I thought that a raspy podcast was better than no podcast.
So next up, let's get into our seasonal cleaning.
This is especially our spring cleaning things to start the season off fresh on a good mindset.
You know, with every new season, you want new energy, new beginnings and spring cleaning
is just such an amazing feeling if you want your energy to be reset and ready for a new
season and just feeling on top of the world.
I would say that spring cleaning is the first start to your hot girl spring checklist, which
you know is coming next week, but this is good because it breaks it up into two parts
and you're not getting an information overload.
And if after you listen to this, you do your spring cleaning next week, you'll be ready
for the next steps.
So fridge and pantry clean out.
If you do this on the regular, you're amazing.
You're super woman because I am kind of bad for my fridge, especially living with two
boys, the fridge and pantry expired stuff and stuff we're just not using can kind of
build up fast.
And you know, in the fridge in the back of the pantry, I feel like it's very easy for
stuff, you know, you know, you just shove it back, you forget about it, but a new season
spring cleaning, it's time to, you know, dig out to the back, get the stuff that you don't
need anymore.
I recently just did a big pantry clean out and the things that I had been saving, some
things had honestly been in my pantry for maybe a year.
And it was time to just reach to the back and be like, okay, I'm clearly not going to
use this again.
And chances are that it's probably gone bad by now.
So as much as it hurts me, I am the biggest.
I hate.
I hate being wasteful with food and throwing it out.
But you know what, sometimes you just have to admit it that you're not going to use it.
Try to be better next time and throw it out.
So you're able to declutter pretty much the same goes for your closet.
If you haven't worn things in a while, it's time to donate them or sell them off to a
better home where they will actually get used.
I always try to really clean out my closet and make sure the things I have are getting
used.
So that one, I don't have as much clutter and build up with my clothing and two, I'm not
being wasteful and everything is being used.
So you know what, put a good playlist on, play your favorite music, get your, oh my gosh,
that's what I forgot to say.
During the 15 minute clean, I always love to have eucalyptus essential oils going in
my diffuser.
That is the number one clean vibe setter.
I don't know what it is at eucalyptus, it just makes your house feel like a spa and there's
no better energy than a spa.
You just feel so clean.
So I always have eucalyptus going.
If you've been here for a while, you know my love for eucalyptus, but really having it
going in your place just elevates your apartment so much.
You feel so fresh.
You always feel high vibe, which is amazing.
So put the eucalyptus on, start running it, put your favorite music on and just, you know
what, you can make your favorite drink, make an ice dirty chai and go through your closet,
make a pile of things that you haven't worn in a while.
I'm very sentimental with my clothing.
So if I wore it, I don't, is anyone else like this?
If you wore something for a very specific event or a specific day, I never like to get
rid of it, but I've learned to kind of part ways with items like that.
So you know, I'm able to just declutter my closet.
Whenever I'm doing a closet clean out, I always think of that Hannah Montana episode where
she was like holding up her outfits and then it would flash back to when she wore them.
That is literally me closet cleaning out, but I know that it's worth it.
And even if I had a good memory in it, it is time to part ways.
Also with spring cleaning, all my winter stuff, it's getting put away.
Okay, I don't want to see it.
I don't need it cluttering up the space if I'm not using it in the current season.
So I haven't done my closet clean out for spring yet, but gloves, scarfs, jackets, tooks,
all of that is going.
It's getting packed away.
Okay, for the season and I will bring it out when winter comes again, but I don't like
too much clutter and I like to just refresh and cycle through my things for the season.
Next up on the seasonal cleaning list is cleaning your shower.
I don't know if I talked about this yet, but I recently invested in a handheld steamer
and holy shit, my shower has never been so clean.
I think it was under.
It was just about or under $100 and my shower has felt so much better and it just elevates
your shower experience.
You feel so clean.
I just took the handheld steamer and I did all the grout and oh my goodness, if anyone
listens to this and gets a handheld steamer and cleans their shower, you're going to know
what I'm talking about seeing all the buildup come off of the grout.
It is so satisfying because so much was coming out of it, even though to my eyes, it didn't
look that bad.
I was so happy that I did it.
Obviously, this isn't a weekly thing, but you know, once every couple of weeks or within
new season, it's the perfect time to do those really tedious cleaning tasks that really
go a long way and refresh for the season.
But I can feel myself getting super nasally and I don't think that you want to hear me
talk about cleaning for much longer.
The tips that I gave you today are a really good start.
If anyone goes to town on spring cleaning, tag me in your story.
I love to see it.
I live for the shit.
You truly feel so much better with a clean space.
And remember to just make a habit out of it and it will come naturally and easy to you
in no time.
I promise you that hopefully next week I'm back better than ever ready for your hot girl
spring checklist.
Okay, I love you.
Have a great week full of cleaning and I will see you next time.
