97. let me deinfluence you , popular products that aren’t worth your money
♪♪
Today I am hopping on the D influencing train.
I'm going to tell you all the things that are overhyped
that you don't need to buy.
You don't need to waste your money on it.
And, you know, I'm gonna save you a little bit of money today.
Welcome back to the Wellness Cafe Podcast.
You're go to Hawkerwalk Podcast.
I'm your host, Tren Tondelier.
And welcome if you are on YouTube.
This is the very first Wellness Cafe video podcast.
I have a new mic.
I have a new mic stand.
We have a setup going and I am bringing you the Wellness Cafe video version now,
which is very exciting.
I've been thinking about doing this for a while.
I have a new mic, so I'm hoping that the quality sounds even better.
You know, we just keep upgrading.
As we learn, okay, that is how you do things.
And eventually I want to have a nice recording setup in the second bedroom.
But I don't have all the furniture yet, so you know what?
I'm just in my living room for now because that's how you learn to do things.
You just have to start.
You can't wait until it's perfect.
So this format will change.
I just wanted to, you know, I always tell you all,
if you have an idea, just start doing it, get your hands dirty and learn as you go.
And that is what I'm doing.
So we can look back at this when I have an actual setup, but for now,
hey, welcome, this will do.
But back to the topic of today's episode.
Let me de-influence you.
Okay, so you can save some money.
The things that you don't need over consumption isn't cute.
Spending above your means is never fun.
We don't need to do that.
I've been there.
I've done that.
My paychecks when I was in school, I think were $300 and I was so quick to go spend it,
blow it all, shop it away and live paycheck to paycheck, which isn't fun.
Okay, we all like to be material girlies, but there's just a point where it's not
cute and it's not good for you and it's not good for the environment.
So I have a huge tub right here of all the products.
I'm going to be de-influencing you on.
And that's why I also thought this would be great for the first video podcast.
So I can show you what I'm talking about if you want to see as you listen.
And today's episode was inspired by one, the de-influencing trend on TikTok.
And number two, I was influenced by a very popular influencer right now.
And I got duped.
I got scammed and I posted about it on my Instagram story.
And it sounded like a lot of you had also been scammed by the same brand, which is not good.
I'm exposing that today.
So stay tuned first our weekly segments because I haven't done them in a while and a little
weekly catch up.
So big news.
The reason that I'm finally starting video recording and like I said, I want to have
my own little recording studio is because Brody and I now live on our own in our apartment,
which is very exciting.
We used to live with one of our best friends from Edmonton while we first moved to Van.
But now we are just alone and we have a two bedroom.
So I'm turning the second bedroom into the wellness cafe studio.
It is coming soon.
I've been going crazy getting lots of ideas for interior decor, how I want to decorate
it.
I want to set it up.
So it's like you're actually at a cafe and I just obviously I'm so indecisive.
I can't pick exactly what I want to do here.
So this is the setup we are going to go with until I can figure that out.
Aside from that, I am recording Tuesday.
I always record real time.
So it's like we're FaceTiming real time catch up and this Sunday it Cales is coming
to Vancouver and then on Monday we are flying to LA for the week and then driving down to
Coachella.
I am so freaking excited.
I cannot wait.
Coachella was like the time of my life last year and I'm just so excited.
Brody is taking along again.
We have an Airbnb.
We're meeting Atlanta in LA and then going to Coachella with her this year.
She missed out.
I'm just so excited to get in the sun to dance to good music.
Brody and I have been playing bad bunny nonstop just cranking him on the Sonos and having
dance parties together in the kitchen.
Just I'm so excited to go dance.
Have a good time.
So that is what's up the witchies, witches will be reunited very soon.
So you can stay tuned for lots of that content coming.
Honestly, I think that's all for weekly updates right now and I want to do our weekly segments
because it's been a hot second because I did some very important episodes that were very
strong messages and I just didn't think it was right for the weekly segments.
But I have so many things.
Well, actually it's just one.
What I'm having right now that is setting me up for success is matcha.
I am a matcha girly.
I don't know what happened.
I just I stayed away from it for so long.
I couldn't get into it.
I didn't see the hype and you know that I cut out coffee.
This thing in the morning and on an empty stomach because it is just terrible for your
gut health and that is a habit that I have really I've been sticking to it and it feels
great.
And the reason that it's been easy to stick to is because I notice such a big difference.
I just feel so much better.
Like I honestly used to get a venti cold brew.
Who do I think I am getting a venti cold brew and I knew that it would give me so much
anxiety.
It's a empty cold brew before university classes and it would literally fill me with anxiety.
And for some reason I thought it was just fine and I never looked for alternatives and
I never tried to cut it out.
So that honestly is my first de-influence of the episode is stop drinking coffee on
an empty stomach.
Okay, it is so acidic and that is terrible for your gut.
I always think it's so funny.
This is a habit that I talked about the very first episode of the Wellness Cafe.
It's the I think it was the what I'm working on and I never stuck to it because I just
I'm a sucker.
I need my morning coffee, but I finally cut it out and the reason it's been easy is because
I can tell such a big difference.
So I will never stop talking about it.
If you're still having coffee first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, I would
highly recommend switching away from it.
Some days I am tempted by a little coffee first thing in the morning and I think I've
done it once or twice and just said, you know what, I don't care.
I'll have it on an empty stomach and I just notice that my gut gets so bloated.
It doesn't feel good.
I feel just not good and I want to be doing and I want you to be doing the things that
make you feel the best.
So I had to share this.
Anyway, I was looking for alternative drinks in the morning.
I love my athletic greens.
I love my bone broth and then I kind of discovered matcha.
And a whole lee shit.
That's my drink.
It's my new go to drink.
Okay.
The vibe for right now, TWC vibe right now is matcha girl spring.
I just came up with that on the fly, but honestly, I feel the first time I had it, I felt like
I literally had like little dog zoomies.
I was so hyped up on caffeine.
I was, I had so much energy, but it wasn't anxiety filled.
Like the energy you get from coffee and that sorts of caffeine.
I just felt like I had the zoomies.
Honestly, I was like running around so productive and it made me feel good.
Matcha is good for you.
And that is what is setting me up for success right now is matcha.
It's also a vibe to go get a little matcha, go for your Hawkerl walk.
It feels good.
It's good for you and I would highly recommend.
I don't know why I steered away from matcha for so long.
I just never got into it because I never really tried it and I didn't really realize how much
better it was for you than coffee and caffeine.
So that is what is setting me up for success.
If you're not a matcha girlie, I would get on it, but also I've just been buying them
because I don't have the stuff to make it at home yet.
So if anyone has a favorite matcha, let me know.
I want to get all the goods to make it at home and have my matcha as my morning moment.
What I'm grateful for, I am grateful for the sun.
And the weather changing, I can feel Hawkerl summer around the corner.
We did it.
We made it out of winter and I can, like my happiness and the serotonin, I can feel it
slowly filling my body up.
I am so ready for Hawkerl summer and we made it around the hump.
We did our candlelit Pilates all winter.
We got through and honestly winter went by so fast this year is flying by.
That's what I'm grateful for.
Okay.
So that's about Hawkerl summer.
It is coming.
Your tan is coming, spending time outdoors in the sun with your friends is coming.
That is what I'm grateful for.
What I am working on is staying on track with my 2023 New Year's resolutions, which was
prioritizing, working out and wellness.
I won't give you the whole spiel again because I've given it a lot.
And I was on live yesterday on the Wellness Cafe Instagram.
I've been loving going live recently and a lot of you were asking what to do if you've
fallen off track of your New Year's resolutions because we're in April now, the New Year's
motivation, the New Year's goals.
They aren't really at the forefront of your mind and social media and they may not be
your main focus right now.
So if you've fallen off track, it's completely fine.
There is still time to work on those New Year's resolutions, even if you have fallen off.
So the way I'm doing this, I already explained it.
It is still just what I'm working on.
I set a specific goal for myself, something that is simple and easy and realistic because
when you're setting goals, it's very important that you set something that is easy and realistic
because this will build your confidence as you continue to show up for yourself because
if you're setting something that is just not realistic and you're setting yourself up to
fail and not follow through with that, that's not going to feel good.
That's not going to build your confidence.
So it's always good to set something very realistic.
And my biggest issue right now with prioritizing working out is I'm kind of bad for not allowing
myself to take breaks from being productive and working and getting all, you know, like
house chores done and everything off my to-do list.
I get so focused on crossing off the to-do list that sometimes a whole day will go by and
I'll realize that I forgot to take the time to fill myself up and fuel myself with a
workout so that I can show up as my highest self for my job and my relationships.
So I'm going to do a full episode actually on the topic of that, but I set myself a goal
of one walk a day and three workouts a week, something that is easy, something that is able
to put a number to the goal so I can just look at it and be like, okay, have you done
your three workouts?
Have you done your walk a day when you make a really simple, realistic goal for yourself?
It is so easy to follow through with it and accomplish it because as I'm just going about
my day, I'll be like, okay, it's time for your one walk.
And that is so simple.
If I set myself that goal, I've been doing it.
I've been doing the three workouts a week.
It feels great.
It's nice to have just a little set in stone goal for the habit that I want to accomplish.
And I would highly recommend just setting yourself a new little realistic goal or habit that you
would like to accomplish that will get you closer to accomplishing your New Year's resolution.
If you've fallen off track, I feel like that is just the easiest way to kind of recent to
yourself and get back on track with that.
And I know that you can do it and I'm here with you.
Okay.
D influencing.
You all know and I know that you are my people.
You are the same.
I'm a material girly.
I love my things.
I love shopping.
I love treating myself.
I don't think there's anything wrong with treating yourself once in a while, but no one
wants to practice over consumption.
It is bad for your mental health.
It's bad for your bank account and it's bad for the environment.
So I'm going to go through some popular items that are, in my opinion, overhyped that you
do not have to waste your money on because I don't want you spending your hard hard money
on things that don't deserve it.
If you like any of these products that I'm about to tell you, that is a okay.
That is completely fine.
You are allowed to love a product.
And if you have this product, I hope that you do love it because you spent your hard
earned money on it.
I just wanted to give a warning.
If you were thinking about these products, I want to tell you and de-influence you to
save your money.
And I'm going to tell you some dupes that you can buy instead that are more affordable
or just products that you straight up don't need because shopping and material things
are definitely a form of self care that we all love.
There's nothing wrong with it.
Shopping adds novelty to your life and it is very fun, but there is a line.
I'll never tell you not to invest in a product that I think will enhance your routine.
I do think that products can really elevate your self care habits if you can afford to
treat yourself once in a while.
Because it is a novelty for sure.
But there also is a variety of products just thrown at you every single day and promoted
to you on social media that you just don't need.
Okay, you don't always have to be on top of the trends.
You don't always need the next new thing.
And you do not need aesthetic products to be that girl.
You don't need an aesthetic water bottle.
You don't need an aesthetic journal to have a gratitude practice or a matching workout
set to go to the gym.
Like I've always told you that the best way to introduce yourself to working out is to
literally do a free YouTube workout in your bedroom and literally your pajamas.
Like an oversized shirt and your comfy shorts and you're good to go.
That will do the trick.
You don't need a matching workout set.
If you can afford to treat yourself and you want to once in a while, sure, but you don't
need hundreds of them.
I love a good product and there are some that are great, but some are also a huge fucking
waste of money and you don't need to buy every single new product that you see on TikTok.
When I see someone talk about a product that sounds good, I've gotten the habit of saving
the video so I can reference it when I need a new product.
Well, you never need a new product, but when the one I'm currently using is out and I want
to replace it.
For example, if you have a face wash that's working, but you see someone talk about a
new one that sounds really good, if it's not broken, don't fix it.
You don't need two of the same products going at the same time.
And if you want to try something new, just wait till you're finished with what you have
and you've used it all.
And then you can go try something new when you're all out of what you currently have.
First starters, three things that I will always spend my money on that I think you should have
the same mindset on are things that are going to help your mental health, your physical
health and experiences.
It is way better to use your money on fun experiences that you will remember forever
and make memories out of and save your money to go traveling and see new parts of this
beautiful world that we live in or go on trips with your friends or spend money going
to a concert or the fair versus a product that essentially is just a brand trying to
make money off of.
So let's go through it.
Starting off strong with the story time of what inspired this episode and how I was
scammed by something I was influenced by.
And it's a pretty well known brand.
It is White Fox boutique.
I had never bought from White Fox before and honestly, I'm pretty sure I was influenced
by Alex Earl because I saw her doing a lot of ads.
And when the time came to Schofert Coachella outfits, of course, it was at the top of my
mind because I had seen her doing a lot of White Fox try and hauls and ads.
So I placed a huge order of $600 plus and the order arrived and I had two missing products
and I tried to reach out to their customer service to get a refund.
You know, as you would expect, you know, you paid for something that item didn't come.
Can I just, you know, get my money back for that item I paid for?
You would think, right?
Um, no, absolutely not.
Apparently you can't do that.
They told me that the package must have been tampered with because on their end, it showed
that everything shipped out.
I don't know whatever excuse they said.
They said they tracked the weight of the package and it shows that everything was shipped out.
Even though I explained that I received two of the same items instead of my items that
I ordered, both of them, I got two of them.
So that would explain the weight and they kept ignoring that.
So just very bad customer service.
And then the second item they just, you know, told me that it must have been tampered with
when, you know, I opened the package, I saw it, it wasn't tampered with.
So I was very frustrated and for me, this isn't the end of the world.
I know there are bigger issues, but I do not want you girlies.
I don't want my best friends losing money and being scammed from a brand.
And after explaining it to them, they pretty much, I kept being persistent that it wasn't
tampered with and I didn't receive the product.
So I wanted a refund and apparently they don't do refunds.
They would not give me a refund, which first of all is insane.
The items were sold out so they said they can't ship it to me again.
So they were offering a store credits.
However, it is, I think it's Australian and I live in Canada and I would have had to pay
my own duties on that again.
And I already paid $100 of duties for the first package, which that was a big shock in the
first place.
Duties are always like a, just like a cut to the throat.
It sucks.
I hate duties.
Anyway, I was just frustrated and shocked because I know this brand is all over social
media.
Alex Doral is pretty much the biggest influencer, one of the biggest influencers on TikTok right
now with so many eyes on her videos.
If I bought White Fox because I had seen her ads for it, I know a lot of other girls are
probably searching for White Fox.
And I do not want this to happen to you.
So first thing I did honestly was I took it to my Instagram story and oh my goodness,
I got hundreds of messages from girls saying similar things had happened to them.
One response she said, girl, last time I ordered from them, all my stuff came with black stains
on it.
And when I asked to get a new set, they said I either had to pay the duties and shipping
fees to send it back myself to get the new set or they couldn't do anything.
I haven't shopped with them since I was so disappointed because their stuff is cute,
but not worth the price for the customer service they provide.
Another response said, girl, the exact same thing happened to me.
Another one said, this happened to me too.
Thank you for saying something.
Another response said, I had the same problem ordering dresses for New Year's Eve last year.
They sent the wrong color of an item and were telling me that I had to pay to return
it to get an exchange, horrible customer service.
So I had to share that because I don't want that happening to any of you getting scammed,
getting ripped off.
There are so many other clothing brands out there that you can shot from and I wouldn't
recommend because even the items that did arrive, the quality wasn't very good.
I put a skirt on and it literally ripped and it was the right size and it ripped.
So not worth it.
Even though I must say the clothes do look pretty cute on Alex Earl, but overall, I would
say this is my first day influence and not worth it.
Next up, I have the little tub right here.
If you're watching on video, I put the poll up on the Wellness Cafe Instagram story and
asked what you wanted to see for the de-influencing episode.
Let me go through it because the biggest, most requested response was asking about drunk
elephant.
A lot of you said is drunk elephant worth the hype.
Someone said honest opinion on drunk elephant.
And that kind of made me assume that it gives the impression that I am being paid to talk
about drunk elephant.
So that is something else I wanted to do in this episode is all the products that I talk
about.
I'm going to say if I paid for them or if they are PR and my drunk elephant products
are sent to me as PR.
I don't pay for them, but I am also not paid to endorse them.
So I do use drunk elephant.
I am very lucky and thankful to have most of the products sent to me for the video girlies.
These are the two that I use the most often, but you do not need to buy these products.
I know it's very expensive and I honestly don't think that you need to be investing
in expensive skincare.
The one thing that I do love that I have shared before is the drunk elephant baby facial.
This is a product and I've said it before.
It's so expensive.
So it hurts me to tell you that I love it.
Do I think you need it?
No.
Do I think it is a very nice face mask that makes your face feel very soft and it's a
nice self care thing?
Absolutely.
So I do love the baby facial, but as for the other products, they are sent to me for free.
So I love them and I use them, but I don't think you need to spend upwards of 50, 60,
80 dollars on a skincare product.
I don't think that's necessary for your skin to be glowing and I don't think it's necessary
for your bank account.
However, I do like the products and it is what I use.
I'm not paid to use drunk elephant.
I get the product sent to me for free.
So I do love them and use them, but I will say before I learned how to properly use
drunk elephant, I was breaking out a lot because I didn't know exactly how to mix like what
products could be used together because I know a lot of their products can't be used
together.
So before I learned how to properly mix the products, I was breaking out.
I was breaking out by drunk elephant and didn't love it.
These two that I'm holding up on the video are the survey moisturizing lotion and the
survey hydrating cleanser.
I think these are both $20 each at your local drugstore and they are amazing.
I also love these products before I had all the drunk elephant.
This was my go to.
You do not need to spend a lot of money on skincare.
You can have glowing skin by first of all, hydration.
I will never stop advocating for drinking your water, drinking your skincare, eating
your skincare.
A lot of your skin issues are connected to your gut and how you're fueling your body
in the first place.
So that is the biggest issue if you have skin concerns, but survey great alternative
to expensive Sephora skincare.
I do like drunk elephant, but I don't think it's necessary to buy it.
A lot of you were also asking about the bronzing drops and this actually is one product that
they haven't sent to me.
I seriously think I have every single other product because it is so popular and always
sold out.
It makes sense and honestly I have bought it.
It is a good product.
I've used it, but I think that I accomplish a glowy bronzed look without it.
I actually don't know how much it is.
I'm pretty sure it's over $50 for bronzing drops.
I don't think you need them.
No.
I'm wasting money on all the expensive skincare.
It is really important to consume your skincare.
And what I mean by that is if you have skin concerns, I mean, I'm not a doctor, but I
know that a lot of skincare issues are often caused by something internally.
So that means that putting a serum on your skin externally isn't going to fix the problem
and you need to get to the root cause of it.
A lot of skin issues have to do with your gut.
The Wellness Cafe sponsor has a product that I use every single day.
Literally so much that it is an essential in my routine to promote gut health and that
is AG1 bi-athletic greens.
And you've heard me talk about this product for a while, even before they started sponsoring
the show.
I started taking it in the summertime.
I think I filled you in when I started taking it in my weekly update and I've even gifted
it to my mom for Christmas because she really wanted it after trying mine.
Everyone that I get on this product loves it.
And you know that I've really been trying to prioritize gut health because I've recently
been educating myself on the importance that your gut has on your whole entire body.
And if your gut is out of whack, everything is out of whack.
Gut health plays just like such a big role in your skin health and your mental health.
Everything really goes back to the gut.
AG1 is just one scoop that gives you nutrients and gut health support that helps your whole
body feel your best.
AG1 is made with 75 super high quality vitamins, minerals and whole food sourced ingredients
that deliver benefits like mood support, immune system and sleep support.
Self care products are great to treat yourself to, but something I will always spend that
extra money on as you've heard me say a lot is if it will support my mental or my physical
health.
So if you want to take ownership of your health, today is a great time to start.
Athletic Greens is giving you a free one year supply of vitamin D and five free travel
packs with your first purchase.
Go to athleticgreens.com slash wellness cafe.
That's athleticgreens.com slash wellness cafe.
Check it out.
It will be linked in the show notes if you want to shop athletic greens.
I keep seeing you take the podcast in your stories with your AG1 arriving and it makes
me so happy.
First up on makeup and skincare is beauty blenders.
You do not need to spend $20 on a beauty blender on a sponge that is pretty much just soaking
up your makeup products.
Okay, in the first place I do use beauty blenders and I have the real one, but also I have this
one from get this the dollar store.
That's correct.
It was $2 and it works the exact same.
There's no reason that you need to spend $20 for a brand name sponge.
Next up we have the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter.
I don't know the exact name of the product.
It all came off the packaging, but I was gifted this product from Charlotte Tilbury.
I love it.
It is a good product.
Do you need it?
Absolutely not.
I know before I actually got this given to me from them, I was using the L'Oreal.
There's a dupe.
It was the name.
It was L'Oreal illuminating glow serum or something.
It was $14 compared to the outrageous price of the Charlotte Tilbury one and it pretty
much does the exact same thing.
I do use this one because like I said, it was PR.
I didn't pay for it and if I was paying for it, I would have just still been using the
L'Oreal dupe.
I thought it would be interesting to add if it's PR or paid in the products I'm talking
about because they are good products.
But I wanted to tell you if I actually paid for them or just to use them because it was
PR.
I think it's really important to be transparent and let you know what I'm using from my own
money that I'm purchasing or if I'm using a product and I like it because it was sent
to me, but do I think you have to spend your own money on it?
No, there are definitely dupes that will give you the same look that you're going for.
Next up, we have mascara because honestly, when it comes to makeup in general, I'm a drug
store girlie.
I don't think that you need expensive makeup products.
They're like, you know, I feel like you are just paying for the brand name.
Sure, there are some products that are really good and may be un-comparable to drugstore,
but most of the time I use drugstore foundation and mascara.
I use the Maybelline Falsies mascara.
She is my go-to in the purple bottle.
I've been using her since junior high and I have the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk.
It's mascara right here.
It was gifted to me in the same package.
It's fine.
It's a fine mascara, but honestly, you can buy drugstore mascara and it will give you
the same effect.
Just like the, oh, I don't know if it's still a huge trend, but when I was in junior high,
it was the better than sex.
Is it benefit?
I forget the brand.
Too Faced?
I think it's Too Faced.
Better than sex mascara.
It was all the hype and I don't think there is a reason that you ever need to stray away
from drugstore mascara and spend your money on those products.
It's just not worth it and it's not worth it for your bank account when you can get the
exact same thing from drugstore.
I also use drugstore foundation.
I use, it's something by NYX.
You will never catch me buying Sephora foundation.
That's another thing.
Actually, let me pull up my notes app because I made a list of everything.
It was the Dior Flawless Filter Foundation.
I did get influenced.
I tick-tocked to buy it and I ended up returning it because it made me break out.
I didn't think it was a good foundation and I preferred my drugstore NYX one.
Along with makeup, I honestly think that goes with every single product.
There are some products that I like from Sephora that aren't drugstore, but you do not need
to buy a full-size makeup product.
This is my NARS for the video.
I'm holding up my NARS orgasm mini size.
You know the little mini travel size products, the checkout line at Sephora.
Minis always get me.
I have had this for a year and haven't hit pan yet and I use it every single time I do
my makeup.
So if there is a product that you want, you do not need to buy the full-size.
Minis are perfect.
I actually just took my little sister shopping to Sephora.
I was in Edmonton for her birthday this past week and she had a gift card and I just told
her instead of buying one full-size product, we got her a bunch of minis and the products
are going to last her forever.
So if there is something you want, I would highly recommend getting a mini.
And also, this is something I told my sister that I'm surprised not more people know about.
If you buy something from Sephora and you don't like it, you can return it.
Sephora has one of the best return policies ever.
The amount of products that I have been influenced to buy and just resort back to my little drug
store products and I return the product, it's insane.
I think you can honestly, it just can't be more, I mean, it can't be less than half full
and you can return it and get your money back.
So if anyone isn't aware of that, if you have a product from Sephora that you don't
like, return that shit.
Next up is perfumes.
I was gifted this product perfume and I like it, but you do not need to buy full-size perfumes.
I buy roller balls.
The little mini, 30 or $40 perfumes, they last you forever.
It is all you need.
No one needs to spend an insane amount of money for a huge bottle of perfume.
The little roller balls are perfect because one, they are travel friendly.
I bring them in my purse with me when I go out.
Who's bringing a full-size bottle of perfume with them when they go to the club?
No, I just buy my little tiny mini travel-size perfumes.
They last me forever and they can also be brought out to the club with you, out to drink,
so you can always be smelling good.
Now we are going into some hair tools.
So I have the dry bar straightener for my hair and you do not need to buy expensive
hair tools.
Before I had this one, I was using a $25 winner.
We got to love winners.
All my Canadian girlies, we love winners.
$25.
That straightener lasted me five years and then it finally did die and I just, like I
was in Sephora when I remembered that I needed a new straightener.
So I decided to try the dry bar one because I had used a winners one for so long and I
literally think it gives the exact same effects.
The dry bar $200 one as a $25 winner is one.
So do not spend your money on expensive hair tools.
The next thing is the Dyson air wrap.
Okay, I am holding up.
I just purchased the Amica blowout brush.
I don't know the exact name for it because you can get the effect that you are looking
for with the Dyson air wrap for so much less.
I just, I've like, I've wanted to buy it because I too, I see the hair videos on TikTok.
All these girls are giving themselves luxurious blowouts.
It looks amazing.
I want in the club, but I cannot bring myself to spend $800 on an air wrap for your hair.
The Dyson vacuum, of course, I love it.
That I will spend my money on, but the Dyson air wrap, no chance.
Okay, and that also goes with the Dyson blow dryer.
I just don't think you need to buy expensive hair products.
Like I said, I got the Dyson blow dryer sent to me as PR and I actually gifted it to my
mom and little sister because I thought that they would get more use out of it.
And it's fast, yes, but honestly, it kind of leaves our hair feeling dry when we use
it.
Because you see all these girls using the air wrap on TikTok, it doesn't mean you have
to save up for months to purchase it.
The Samika one that I just purchased, I think it was $100.
It does the exact same thing and there is no reason to spend $900 on an air wrap.
Okay, that's all the self care and makeup products, but now I have this next product.
Is my AirPod Maxes.
So yes, they are aesthetic, they are trendy, but I would save your money on them.
I love them.
Don't get me wrong.
I don't not like the product, but for the price you're paying, you can buy other noise
canceling headphones for way cheaper.
You do not need to spend, I forget, I think they're like $800 and that's absurd because
I already shared this when I did a full review of them.
They honestly don't stay on my head that well when I work out.
And I oftentimes just opt for my normal AirPods when I'm working out.
I love the noise canceling for flying.
It has changed the game for flying and traveling.
I would highly recommend noise canceling headphones, but you can get noise canceling
headphones for way cheaper.
So just because they are aesthetic and trendy doesn't mean you need them.
If you're looking for a noise canceling headphone, you can definitely buy cheaper ones that will
probably also stay on your head when you work out.
I just remembered I actually have one more thing that I want to say about makeup in general
is that you do not need multiple of the same product.
You don't need a hundred different blushes and bronzers.
One thing I really try to do is I like to use a product.
And if I like it, use it all before trying another one because yes, there's probably
another new product that I want to try, another new blush.
But if I have something that is good and works well, you don't need to be buying multiple
of the same thing, you know, if there's a product that you want to try, I would highly recommend
getting in the practice of using what you have now and then purchasing it at a later
point when you need a refill.
There's no point in collecting multiple blushes and bronzers and eyebrow products, mascara.
You know, one or two, max it at that, use them, love them, and then try another thing.
And this is also for many different reasons for the planet, for your bank account and for
the cleanliness of your home because it kind of goes along with clutter and keeping your
space clean, a clear space equals a clear mind.
And if you have so much clutter and build up of products that you don't have space to
store them all, there's just no reason to be over consuming and just have an overload
of products in your environment.
If you have something that works, you don't need another one.
I know what can be tempting.
I've been tempted myself.
I actually am being a little bit hypocritical because I use the NARS orgasm liquid blush.
It's my go to.
I've always loved it.
And I finally just got a rare beauty blush.
So now I do have two, but obviously it's not going to go over two.
The rare blushes were always just sold out and I finally saw one and I wanted to use it.
And I have tried it out.
It is really good.
But at the end of the day, products are being sold to you.
Brands want to make money.
They want you to make it seem like you need this product.
Nothing is going to like change your life.
It is a novelty.
They enhance your life.
It's fun to treat yourself once in a while, but just be mindful.
You're not over consuming for the sake of, like I said, not only the planet, but your
bank account.
I do this with workout sets too.
I have my couple of Lulu bras and I love them.
I see like, of course, Whitney Simmons gets all of her workout set sent to her, but I
see her workout closet and I'm like, wow, that looks so aesthetic with all the multiple
sets lined up next to each other.
She literally has a workout set in every single shade.
And I know she's probably not buying all of those and that they're sent to her.
But when I look at that, I'm like, wow, that would be lovely.
I want my workout clothes to look like that and my collection to look like that.
And then I realize that I don't need that.
I have a workout bra that is, it gets the job done.
I have a couple that I love.
I don't need a full closet of workout clothes.
That is not good for my bank account or the environment.
Last, but not least, I have my JERF Avenue rope here.
I just bought her.
I wanted her so badly because of the absolute chokehold that Matilda JERF has on everyone
and social media.
Don't get me wrong.
I think that her brand is amazing.
JERF Avenue is so cute.
And I finally got one of these robes I splurged because they just looked so aesthetic.
I thought that I needed it.
Is it cute?
Yes.
It's adorable.
I love her.
Do you need to spend $200 on a robe?
I don't think you do.
Well, I know that you don't.
The robe itself, it's not amazing.
It isn't amazing.
It's not the most comfortable thing I've ever put on.
It's not perfect.
And that is definitely something I could have gone without spending.
I know her robes are all over social media because they are so aesthetic and adorable.
It can be tempting to save up and splurge on one of them.
She got me.
She influenced me.
And honestly, I do not need it.
And you don't either.
Even though they are so aesthetic and cute, it's not a life-changing robe.
If you want to splurge on a robe, I have my skims robe here.
She is expensive.
You do not need her.
And actually, I will say this is the one skims thing that was sent to me as PR.
I didn't purchase this.
Everything else in my skims collection, I purchased myself because I do.
That is one thing I'm guilty of.
I do think skims is worth the money.
However, this robe was sent to me.
But the cozy skims robe, it added more to my life and my routine than the JURF one did.
And I think it's less money or the same amount as the JURF one.
And this one actually is comfortable.
I wear her all the time.
And I love her for more than just aesthetics.
It is also cozy.
The JURF one, I think it's just cute.
I don't really, it's kind of heavy.
It's hard to move around in and it's not as comfortable as the skims one.
So if you do want to splurge and treat yourself to a nice robe, I would recommend the skims
one.
It was all for today after a more important message last week.
I thought it would be fun to just sit down, have a little girl talk about products, catch
up, hang out, have a lighthearted episode.
And hopefully this helps you just double think.
Take another thought about it next time you want to spend money on something that you
saw on TikTok.
Chances are you don't need it.
Chances are there is a cheaper product.
Save your money.
You don't need multiple of the same thing.
But also it is okay to treat yourself.
Okay.
Always remember that.
I love you and I will see you next episode.
